Research tells us that many psychological (and physical) symptoms result from psychological trauma. Do you have a history of abuse (physical, sexual or emotional) or neglect? Did you grow up with frightening caregivers? Do you experience emotional symptoms such as anxiety, depression, constant self-criticism, overwhelming emotions? Have you struggled with addiction, workaholism or negative beliefs about yourself? Have you had limited results with "talk therapy"? Gabor Mate defines trauma as “… not what happens to you; it is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you ….” I want to help people heal from trauma.
Nine years ago I attended Dick Schwartz’s introductory training in Internal Family Systems. His explanation of the model immediately resonated with me. IFS does not pathologize symptoms; it sees them as parts that are trying to help us survive, solve problems, cope, or keep overwhelming emotions away. I provide IFS, EMDR and equine-assisted therapy.
Central to IFS therapy is the role of Self. Self is not a "part". We all have a Self; call it the core seat of consciousness, or soul, or Buddha nature. Self is compassionate, curious, creative, confident, courageous, connected, calm and has clarity. Self is the compassionate healer of our wounded parts. Please contact me if this resontes with you!
