Having received specialized training in EMDR and Anxiety/OCD, I feel I have a unique perspective and understanding of how experience can alter our perceptions and how our innate drives to seek safety and security can sometimes go awry and leave us questioning some of the deepest beliefs we hold about ourselves, others, and the world.
The pursuit of well-being, health, meaning, joy, and peace is an on-going, confusing and complex journey. Fear, anxiety, dissociation, trauma, depression, flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts strip us from our agency, disconnect us from our deeper intentions, values, and priorities, and hijack our capacity to live fully enriched, meaningful lives. Making sense of these experiences is often fraught with shame, confusion, frustration, and can leave one feeling powerless and overwhelmed.

I am an Anxiety, OCD and Trauma specialist. When clients come to work with me they are often struggling with fear of the unknown, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, behavioral and mental compulsions, negative intrusive thoughts and other such patterns that are taking them deeper into the fear spiral. In therapy, I support my clients in developing a kinder relationship with themselves while becoming more conscious of the negative coping patterns that are holding them in cycles of pain. We work on shifting this while also developing the positive coping skills needed to move towards a healthier, freer and more joyful life.

You constantly feel anxious and on edge. You overthink everything, and find it hard to get things done. Life feels overwhelming. Sleep is difficult due to the endless cycle of thoughts running through your mind. You have a lot of thoughts that begin with "What if". You often imagine the worst case scenario and get stuck thinking about it over and over. Every little thing irritates you, but you hide those feelings because you don't want to upset anyone. You have friends but find it hard to reach out to them. You work hard in your career or school, but still don't feel like it is good enough. I would like to help!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
