Constantly struggling with food, body image, or weight shame is exhausting. It can feel like a broken record- the yo-yo diets, binge eating, feeling disconnected from your body, overwhelmed around food, feeling not enough and too much at the same time. You're over it. You're ready for things to feel easier- to reclaim your energy and to trust yourself more. Whether you're new to this place of questioning and frustration -OR- you already have a strong sense of self and body but could benefit from support navigating a world full of harmful body hierarchies, I'm so glad you're here.

I have no evening (after 5PM) hours available right now. Most of my clients feel stuck or paralyzed by anxiety, emotions, or issues with interpersonal relationships which prevent them from living their best lives at the beginning of treatment with me. My goals are to break down unhelpful thought patterns and look at the barriers to making progress. Many times, clients will start with vague diagnoses such as "anxiety" or "depression" and we work together to look deeper into more specific symptoms and factors (and sometimes diagnoses) which are the true root causes of their issues.

Sometimes overwhelming challenges or changes can feel as though they’ve taken over our lives. All too often, rather than seeking the compassionate care we deserve, we try to bear the weight of our circumstances alone, which can lead to compounding feelings of self-doubt, fear, and isolation. I draw from a broad range of therapies to help heal the parts of you that are in pain. My integrative approach draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). With these proven methodologies in my toolkit, I collaborate with you to make meaningful change.

Hate therapy? I get it. If you are missing out on a sense of peace or feel like you'll burst if something doesn't change soon, however, then it’s worth it to invest in yourself through therapy. Concerns I work with most are: men’s issues (i.e. intimacy), codependency, life transitions (i.e. college, divorce), anxiety, substance use disorders, self esteem/empowerment. No matter what your concern, I'm committed to not pathologizing people. You are not broken! I tailor sophisticated treatment modalities to your needs and pride myself in being present with you during our sessions.

How does feminist therapy work?
Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.
What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?
Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.
How long does feminist therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
Does feminist therapy work?
As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
