Are you finding it difficult to create growth in your life? Are you looking to connect with your feelings and overcome your past struggles? In therapy, we will work together to explore what is going wrong and where we can find new life. I believe there is no problem too big or strange for therapy and that growth is always possible no matter what life stage you are at. Some of the main issues I tend to work with are: Depression, Anxiety, Family Relationships, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Trauma.

I recently relocated to be near family in Michigan, but I continue to work with clients from the DC area by a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, and I'm independently licensed in DC, MD, VA and MI.
If you are in the midst of a daunting medical diagnosis or grieving a painful loss, I am glad you found my page. Perhaps you are caring for a loved one, and find yourself mentally and physically exhausted, or you're a healthcare professional and you're feeling overwhelmed. Or maybe you are about to embark on treatment for cancer and are struggling with a tangled ball of emotions. In my work with clients, I create a safe, compassionate space to unpack and explore these issues, and to be a companion on your journey toward healing, growth, and transformation. Whatever brought you here today: I am here to listen.

In my free time, I enjoy backpacking, disc golf, grilling out with friends and family, and mint chocolate chip ice cream.
I believe in creating a warm and safe place where people can feel comfortable working through their difficulties and emerge with new strength. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families on a wide range of personal and interpersonal issues. Some people have a clear idea of the problem they want to address, and others are simply experiencing too much difficulty and only know that something needs to change. In either case, I explore their individual experiences and perspectives, and what they would like out of the therapeutic process before collaboratively developing the interventions and tools that best meet their needs.

Additionally, I have worked in settings that include children & family, community mental health, and corrections facilities.
As a therapist, I understand that it can take time to develop a relationship and open up to a stranger about personal life and history. My goal is to work with each person to create a trusting relationship that allows each individual to be heard and respected. I value looking at each client's individual and unique strengths to help them find creative strategies that best fit their needs and lifestyles so that they can be successful in both their short-term and long-term goals.

Maybe you have clearly-defined goals, maybe you want to learn more about yourself, or maybe you don't want to burden your friends/ family with what's rattling around in your head.
If your relationship feels stuck, I will help you identify & change harmful patterns before you feel hopeless. We'll build on your strengths and history. Afraid of replicating your parents' marriage? We'll explore your fears, improve communication, & work toward more effective solutions. Plan to move in together? Get married? Change jobs? Have a baby? I can help you prepare now for the typical (& your unique) stressors that come with those changes instead of feeling blindsided by them & trying to pick up the broken pieces later. Communication, intimacy, & sexual satisfaction can all be strengthened with some intention & time.

Using mindfulness techniques and a combination of different theoretical approaches, a holistic approach can help with depression, anxiety, emotional difficulties, trauma, stress, family issues and work-related problems.
Integrative, connected, holistic, and person-centered are just some of the words that I would use to describe my therapeutic approach with my clients. ‍I believe that your body, mind, and spirit are all connected and play a crucial role in your healing journey, and understanding this connection can encourage you to thrive and heal on a deeper level. ‍

I work with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, gender dysphoria, and more. I tend to work with a lot of neurodivergent folks, those with ADHD, Autism, and OCD. I enjoy working with folks to find their calm, their space where they can be themselves authentically, and the happiest they can be with themselves. I provide individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. I have worked with folks of all ages, races, sexual-orientations, genders, etc. and I provide a space of safety and empathy. The number one importance in this therapy experience is the client in my chair and how they feel about themselves.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
