I have 20 years of experience working with trauma, family of origin issues, relationship struggles, anxiety, and depression.
Do you feel that life isn’t making sense? Feeling irritable, anxious, or that things are out of your control. Do you question yourself, your goals, your strength but put on a smile and armor up to move through the day so that no one knows? I am here to help support you in unraveling all that is not working to help it all make sense. I am here to help you reconnect with your inner voice, not what other people think. To process loss and change and fear with a full, whole heart. And to build a life that is brave, connected, and wholehearted.

Childhood experiences, cultural factors, and family dynamics are just some areas we explore.
Our quality of life is correlated with the quality of our relationships. Stress in relationships can be the main source of unhappiness, making us feel lonely, resentful, and exhausted. Conversely, healthy and secure relationships bring meaning, joy, and a sense of peace into our lives. Therapy can help us gain a sense of clarity and confidence when navigating relationship issues while maintaining our own sense of self. It helps us become mindful of keeping a balance between our own needs and the needs of others. This balance can greatly impact our experience of the self, and others in a positive way.

As a family therapist with training in DBT & EMDR, I believe in providing a level of care that allows us to work collaboratively towards your feeling like a lighter, more confident version of yourself & relationships.
Trauma can leave us feeling isolated, broken, damaged, unable to stand up for ourselves and disconnected in our most intimate relationships. It may feel like the past has a hold on you, as if nothing can change the person that you've become as a result of the horror you faced. Imagining a healed version of yourself may even feel unattainable, but you are tired of feeling triggered, fearful and hopeless. You know that change is possible and are ready to stop allowing your past to dictate who you become in the future. You want to discover their true potential, and take the lead in living your best life.

Issues explored: relations, career, personal challenges, trauma and family dynamics; also, gender roles, power and control issues, inequality, intimacy, sexuality, conflict and self-awareness. I provide my clients with a friendly environment that facilitates exploration, and the possibility of seeing old patterns from a different angle; with deep respect, an interested presence, and a curious attitude about my client's point of view. I believe in the power of healthy relationships. Relationships can be transformed if we are ready to re-invent ourselves.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
