Among other modalities, I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Nature-Based Therapy in my work with clients.
I approach my work with clients from a deep conviction that all people have the ability to elicit lasting change, find internal calm, and make more skillful decisions if given the right tools. I believe in the ability of each of us to shift our perceived setbacks and struggles into opportunities for growth and learning. I see my role with clients as a non-judgmental witness, curious co-collaborator, and vessel for authenticity.

We are in extraordinary times of uncertainty. You are not alone in feeling sad, stressed, afraid, lonely, or angry. Relationships everywhere are feeling strained and disconnected. Parents are unsure how to meet their children’s needs or how to know if their teenager’s behavior is “normal”. Individuals are feeling even more alone, anxious, and overwhelmed. Searching for a therapist to help with these struggles is not easy. For those who are considering therapy during your most vulnerable and difficult times I commend you for your courage to care of yourself and your family.

I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR, and am certified to supervise visitation between parents and children through the Coaching Family Visits model.
Is your child’s thinking, feeling, or behavior negatively affecting their ability to fully engage in life? I help children and families identify challenge areas and provide support through offering individual sessions for children, family-based sessions, and parent-focused sessions. While I may offer specific expertise relating to therapy and child development, parents are the experts when it comes to their own children, so I rely on collaboration with family members to provide the most effective treatment.

When someone in a relationship is an addict, unhealthy role shifts and power imbalances take hold. Once the substance abuser enters recovery, things begin to re-balance, and this power redistribution has potential for new problems. Couples and family treatment can help both partners or family members to work together to adapt to the challenges posed during this transition back to a fully-functioning relationships. Providing a safe therapeutic environment, I assist in navigating the challenges that face partners or family members once the addict enters recovery, including how to best to assist the recovering person and address life changes for loved ones.

This background is integral to my practice, particularly when working with clients or those with family members with special needs.
Therapy can create a safe and supportive space to rebuild resiliency and a sense of balance during these challenging times and beyond. I listen well and bring experience, honesty, and warmth to my work. Along with what’s going on now, we talk about past events and relationships that are part of your story, exploring how they may be making themselves felt in the present. Doing this thoughtfully together can open doors to better relationships with yourself, other people and the world.

I am a faculty member at the Minuchin Center for the Family, NYC, former faculty member at N.
I have seen that in difficult times couples and families get stuck, repeating the same solutions to the same problems, and nothing changes. The short-term, solution focused work I do, helps break these unproductive patterns so that new, more hopeful aspects of ourselves and our relationships can emerge. Research has shown that couple and family therapy is a most effective treatment for many problems, including depression that seem to be localized within the individual. The effectiveness of this work stems from its focus on changing aspects of relationships that trigger and reinforce the individual problems we bring to therapy.

I am offering individual, couple and family intensives.
I provide Body/Mind/Spirit Trauma Resolution tx that facilitates emotional & physiological healing, empowering clients to learn self compassion as they rewrite their life narrative. Good therapy focuses on helping people overcome obstacles to living a productive and fulfilling life -- whether in relationships, work, or creative self-expression. As a psychotherapist in practice for 25+ years, my aim is to create an environment where patients can learn about themselves, grow, and, most important, change. My work has been guided by my social work background and psychoanalytic training, and has been deeply influenced by my connection to dance and the arts. I work with people of all ages and backgrounds who struggle with anxiety, depression, personality problems, bereavement, life-threatening illnesses, and family/relationship issues.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
