I work heavily from a psychodynamic perspective; (basically getting to the root of the problem); which often stem from family of origin problems or trauma.
Do you have low energy but you're not sure why? Do you live in a constant state of worry? Or perhaps you make goals for yourself but have difficulty reaching them. Maybe relationship issues? You want to solve these problems and to feel better, but it seems like nothing that you try works, at least not for long. I want to help. Together we will work to find what is blocking your success and find new strategies that work for you. You may be dealing with an undiagnosed mental health issue, or unrealized internal conflicts that need to be resolved. Uncovering these things take the help of a mental health professional.

I primarily work with individuals but also work with family members.
Welcome to Janice Prichett Psychotherapy. My philosophy centers on the understanding that people, when provided with the right support and space, can overcome life's challenges. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process and am committed to providing a compassionate and non-judgmental space where individuals can authentically tell their stories. By providing a supportive environment, clients can explore, understand, and rewrite their narratives in ways that promote healing and positive change. I assist people in developing concrete skills to increase their ability to cope more effectively.

Are you having problems getting things done in your daily life? If so, you are not alone. For the past 20 years, I have been working with people from diverse backgrounds with unique circumstances, just like yours. I have experience working with the LGBTQ community, specifically trans folks (adults, children, and their families), mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, as well as family dynamics.
At times, it can feel like the world is spinning out of control. Whether it be our personal and professional lives, interpersonal relationships, navigating a series of collective and systemic traumas, or a mixture of these things. Sometimes we are looking for ways to improve our situation, other times we are looking to find acceptance and to sit with what's out of our control. Sometimes we can find ways to distract from these things, and then there are instances where we need to face them head on. How do we know what we need to do, and when?

Establishing yourself, and your identity, is a lifelong process. You are not alone when you face questions including: Who am I? What is my purpose? Who do I want in my life? What do I stand for? Why am I here? When we consider these questions, along with countless others branching from these, you might find yourself overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or frustrated. Attempting to navigate this process, you may face societal expectations, dysfunctional family dynamics, economic challenges or other stressors operating against you. While desire to be stable, authentic, and true to self is shared, your story will always be unique.

The whole family needs to develop-and it is a relief to all when they discover that they can, with help, collectively change their situation.
We all wear many hats in this world, whether it be parent, daughter/son, partner, friend or boss and I can teach you how to do it all and not be burnt out: how to live your life qualitatively, not quantitatively. Together I can help you learn how to be a choice maker and creator of your life-teaching you how to enjoy your whole life. I work with all ages and have 33 years experience as a psychotherapist. My style is conversational, collaborative and direct. I particularly love to help families &/or couples have those hard conversations that they are not talking about.

I work with people of all ages, in individual, couples, family and group therapy.
I work with people who want to grow - emotionally, intellectually, professionally - in order to be more satisfied with their lives. I am an active partner in my clients' emotional growth and well-being. When people call me, whether in crisis or struggling with one of life's ordinary challenges, they are often in pain, feeling alone and overhwelmed. I help them unpackage their beliefs and ways of understanding and doing their lives. Together, we are better equipped to discover and create new possibilities: new ways of seeing, relating and doing life and relationships.

I have over 30 years experience working as a psychotherapist with a great variety of people who have come to me for help. My style is conversational, engaging and direct - I prefer a humane rather than a clinical approach and I actively participate in creating our work together. I love to help people develop emotionally and be able to make creative changes and meet challenges in their lives. Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
