A Gen X-er raised by a cattle family in SEK, my journey has taken me many places including small towns, villages in Africa, and to NYC where I was a chaplain working at Ground Zero in 2001.
"You're like Mr. Rogers because you talk about ideas and feelings, but you cuss a lot. I like that." --- I have worked closely with people from a broad range of political, economic, and cultural backgrounds, those who identify as LGBTQ+, as well as folks from more traditionally rural backgrounds.

Hi there! I know is not easy to take the first step into therapy. Or making the decision to get back into therapy or even looking for a new counselor. It takes strength and wisdom to reach out for help. Sometimes life does not go the way we plan. Or we simply find ourselves with day to day stress/struggles. I like to embrace what you are already doing good and empower you in your life journey.

Life issues are hard enough, but going through them alone or unsupported is even harder. You are not your symptoms and you are not alone. Counseling can be a powerful asset. Choosing the right therapist for you can be a daunting task. I would love the opportunity to see if we are a good match. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental environment so that personal exploration, reflection, growth, and positive changes can occur. I specialize in working with neurodivergent individuals, other clinicians/mental health professionals, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

The tension in your chest is there again. You can hardly catch your breath. So much to do! Your mind is racing and you feel like you are drowning. Even the smallest things are irritating. You just yelled at your daughter for being too loud, and now feel terrible about it. You missed another deadline at work because you’re so distracted. Confidence is at an all-time low. “I can’t do anything right,” you tell yourself. You know something needs to change, but you’re paralyzed by anxiety. Overthinking every choice until you can’t take any action. It’s gotten to the point where you just want to stay in bed, avoid everyone, and give up.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
