Drawing from modalities like CBT, Internal Family Systems, and mindfulness, Amanda creates a safe and restorative space for her clients to explore their strengths and overcome challenges.
Sometimes life is hard. It seems like people are feeling the pressures of life more and more from every different area of their life. In therapy with me, we can talk through and process stressors. What you can expect from me is a caring, patient, sensitive, sometimes humorous, dedicated listener. We will work together to tailor your care and needs. Sometimes people just need to talk and be heard. Other times, people need tools, skills, tasks to practice improving their life that are realistic and manageable. As of Summer 2024, I have a few opening for telehealth only.

I have a wealth of experience working with individuals with major mental disorders, typical depression/anxiety, and substance use disorders and associated recovery, as well as, family and/or legal issues, and trauma - developmental, acute, and/or complex. Are you having a difficult time dealing with life/people/everything, regularly feeling overwhelmed, struggling to find joy or contentment, or feel as though your spirit is diminished or permanently wounded; I can help with those things. Medication can be helpful but typically only targets symptoms and not underlying problems. Substance use and other maladaptive behaviors also only

It is important to have a warm, safe place to discuss personal issues; a place where you can let your guard down and be accepted. Regardless of your stage of life, or the situation, your pain is real and can impact your life in many different ways. When faced with difficulties in your personal or work relationships, struggles with parenting, or any life transition, I believe that healthy and positive growth can result from a compassionate therapeutic relationship.

“We don't have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.” Brene Brown. We all have life experiences that impact how we show up for ourselves and others. These experiences impact our emotions, health, and you might notice how things just don't seem to work together anymore. I believe I can partner with you to navigate and work through your experiences to build a genuine life and space for yourself. You are the expert on your experiences and my goal is to guide you through healing to create security, stability, and growth.

During my studies, I have focused on the interactions between thinking, emotions, behaviors, and belief systems. I have learned that many factors, such as genetics and how and where someone grows up, deeply affect how we think and feel about the world when we're navigating the complexities of becoming and being an adult. The holistic and sometimes eclectic approaches I have learned are helpful for personal growth or when we have thoughts, actions, and feelings that we wish that we did not have or are just confusing to us.

The work that goes into having a healthy relationship with your mental health often takes a back seat to much of life’s other stressors. The reality is our mental health and the relationship that we maintain with ourselves is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Therapy can provide a platform to explore what is and is not working in your life and provide a powerful opportunity to enhance your life, relationships, and well being. I look forward to helping you discover your personal strengths and taking control of your life with a direct approach and a touch of humor.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
