I have learned much from working with people of multicultural backgrounds, as well as the LGBT community, Veterans & their partners, cancer patients and their family, and more.
Welcoming couples clients! Relationship problems are common, and you have taken a courageous step by seeking therapy. As one of the few psychologists specializing in couple therapy, I have supported hundreds of couples by providing effective, evidence-based treatments that scientific research has shown to bring significant and lasting improvement. My own research on relationships has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and featured here in Psychology Today, international media outlets such as Business Insider Germany and New York Times Best Seller Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown.

I have extensive experience working with individuals and couples. Couple's work is helpful for restoring intimacy, closeness, and communication. Couples work can also be useful for one's individual psychotherapy as partners often help to bring attention to areas of life which have been neglected. Long-term relationships have ups and downs, multiple stressors, as well as developmental phases, which can rupture relationships. Couples therapy is very dynamic. A well-trained couples' therapist can bring a marriage back from the brink of disaster allowing an entire family to avoid the trauma and financial devastation of divorce.

Through my training and professional experience, I have worked extensively with issues related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, and panic disorders and issues related to ADHD, OCD, phobias, intellectual disability, mood disorders, substance abuse, couples, and family interventions.
Do you struggle with sadness, stress, anger, and/or anxiety? Do you struggle within your romantic relationship or have problems within your family relationships? Change is definitely possible and I hope that you want to work together to make this happen! Connection between therapist and patient is key for the therapeutic relationship to work. Beginning therapy can be a very scary and difficult decision. Seeking help is the first step to improve yourself. Over the last 12 years I have provided a genuine and judgment free environment to help work through a variety of behavioral health issues.

Talking to family and friends has gone nowhere lately.
Are you frustrated, perhaps feeling a bit angry? In addition, you feel like no one understands you or they say the wrong thing to you without thinking of the impact. Dealing with chronic illness and pain is a consistent struggle. Sometimes getting through a day to just support a decent lifestyle is excruciating. The isolation is troubling because a social life feels so out of reach. Top that off with a relationship and a healthy sex life seems impossible at the moment. Everyday feels like a marathon of how much can be done while feeling a consistent exhaustion that never goes away. Waking up feeling refreshed seems like a fantasy.

If you allow me the privilege, I will work to create a therapeutic relationship and safe space for connecting toward the common goal of helping you, your child, or family move forward in a more positive and satisfying way.
We have all felt a lack of connection at some time, whether it is lack of connection with others or lack of connection with ourselves. It is common for this feeling to become more profound at specific times or due to certain experiences. This may include experiences with trauma, foster care and adoption, grief and loss, infertility, or unexpected circumstances or changes, such as divorce, challenges with children's development, illness/loss of a loved one, or changes in employment. My focus is in helping clients to develop a stronger sense of connection toward the goal of finding a new sense of meaning, acceptance, and fulfillment.

Most often I work with people seeking help with the common challenges of adult life: relationship/ family issues; grief and loss; adult child recovery; depression; codependency; addictions; health concerns; career/financial challenges; and unfulfilled spiritual yearnings - drawing from cognitive-behaviorial, psychodynamic, and transpersonal methodology.
Finding the best individual and marriage therapist for you can seem daunting. Talking to us, asking questions, paying attention to your feelings and intuition, all help. My 30 years experience as a compassionate, well-trained psychotherapist give me the background and skills to support you in achieving your goals, which might include: resolving immediate symptoms; recognizing and appreciating core strengths; developing deeper self awareness and acceptance; and learning the skills of empowered, effective communication. I am experienced in working with the newer spiritual growth paradigms, as in the work of Eckhart Tolle.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
