My specialties are Family Based-Treatment, an evidence-based practice shown to greatly improve ED symptoms & get kids on the path to recovery, & creative arts therapy.
Eating disorders began rising at alarming rates over the course of the pandemic with little growth in the number of equipped providers. Many parents of children & adolescents have been left in the lurch, trying to understand what's going on with their kids & how to help. For those adolescents & emerging adults ready to confront body image and/or create a life worth living, finding a provider that understands eating disorders in & out can be a challenge.

I work with individuals who are experiencing the effects of trauma, are struggling with anxiety and depression, and those with family dynamics that cause conflict and stress.
Working through life's problems can be difficult to do alone. Having a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment will provide the opportunity to find the relief you deserve. Through a person-centered approach, we will collaborate a plan to work through the things that may be holding you back from reaching your full potential and working toward your goals. I utilize techniques such as CBT, and trauma informed care to assist in self empowerment, gaining insight, and developing skills to cope with stressors.

In addition to general practice with individuals, couples and family work, my specialty areas are grief and loss (including both normative and complicated mourning), anxiety and depression, addiction and trauma survivorship.
For more than 30 years, I have helped others to negotiate their pain and difficult circumstances with compassion, sensitivity, warmth, intelligence and kindness. My interdisciplinary approach respects an awareness of each person's individuality and their life history, as people tend to cope with their problems and situations depending upon who they are in the first place. My goal is to provide both support and understanding, and through listening well, to provide expert professional guidance in helping people to find their way.

My work experience has included individual, group, and family psychotherapy using a variety of modalities including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and psychodynamic theory.
I am a psychotherapist who is passionate about helping others navigate the pressures and stressors of life. The world we live in can feel overwhelming, demanding and overly competitive. Our culture can be harmful when it comes to ideas about happiness, success and beauty ideals. My past work experience in the fashion industry and prior to that, being a Division 1 athlete, give me a unique insight into common societal pressures we face and the need to manage our mental health as a result. My goal as a therapist is to help heal and empower individuals to manage the pressures of life and find their own version of happiness.

My goal is to help you and your family remain together in the United States and to help connect patients to therapists afterwards if helpful.
As an English and Spanish speaking therapist, currently my private practice focus is working with Spanish-speaking clients and families applying for immigration and who need an evaluation for a Waiver, VAWA, asylum, U-Visa, or cancellation of deportation cases. I have a warm and empathic nature and create a setting where you can be yourself and be vulnerable. As someone who has experienced the challenges of immigration in my family, I understand the importance and gravity of the situation.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
