Many adverse experiences have shaped us from birth to the present moment and I am committed to exploring these experiences with you. Using a psychodynamic and trauma-informed approach to encourage healing, we will work on specific goals for you to become the highest version of yourself. Along with our past, our present is very much relevant to our healing process, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) we will work on taking control and modifying your negative thinking patterns. I believe we are all individually and uniquely different, so I like to take a humanistic and strength based approach to each of your own needs and goals

I am a psychologist in private practice for over 20 years. The people I see struggle with depression, anxiety, loss, troubling behavior, and relationship problems. I strive to be warm and empathic and provide a space where people can work through past painful experiences and develop stronger coping skills and healthier patterns of relating to others. I help to identify sources of hope and meaning that help cope with stressful circumstances. Psychotherapy can help bring about a greater sense of emotional freedom, self esteem, and more satisfying relationships.

The teenage years can be stressful especially in light of the social media and peer pressure. The pandemic is complicating socialization and stunting personal development. I am here to support adolescents and their families through this difficult stage of development, especially during the uncertain times that COVID brought. My goal is to help adolescents become confident, independent and responsible. Individual, group and family counseling can offer major support and relieve stress for the entire family.

As a DBT therapist, I work with individuals who may have struggled with suicidal ideation, self harm, substance abuse, emotion dysregulation, and difficulties with relationships. Often I see clients who identify as highly sensitive and have a hard time accepting this about themselves due to the intensity of their emotions. It is my goal to assist these individuals in understanding the absolute strength their sensitivity can be once they learn to not only self-regulate, but embrace this quality. I believe the most beautiful thing about DBT treatment is the primary goal of getting clients to live a life they truly find worth living.

Embarking on the journey to find a therapist can be one of the most empowering steps towards healing. I understand the immense strength and courage it takes to begin this search. Sometimes, life can feel overwhelmingly heavy, burdened with feelings of sadness, anxiety, loneliness, and stress. Therapy, in my perspective, is a partnership where both you and I work together. With counseling, my ongoing goals are to provide healing, foster growth, and inspire healthy changes in your life.

I am a firm believer that we all have the innate drive and motivation to get better; this just needs to be realized and accessed. As a clinician, I will only be helping facilitate the inner work that you are already capable of doing! I strive to be the witness, and together we will uncover resiliency and hope to create lasting change. Life and its constant challenges have a clever way of clouding our inner wisdom and veering us off course. Together, we will clear the dust to allow for refocusing and realignment in your life.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
