I strive to have an open, comfortable, and culturally sensitive environment.
The healing process begins with choosing a therapist with whom you are comfortable. You may be overwhelmed by trying to manage problems, conflicts, personal performance, or transitions in your life, and find that the support of family and friends is not sufficient. My approach as a therapist is to provide a safe, supportive, and confidential environment, and to partner with my clients to not only alleviate the presenting symptoms, but also their underlying causes. It is important to me as a therapist that clients feel validated and active participants in their care.

"If my aim is to prove I am enough, the project goes on to infinity; because the battle was already lost on the day I conceded the issue was debatable." ~Nathaniel Branden. As an experiential therapist, I "name the elephant in the room" & help clients navigate obstacles denying them pure joy in living. I work with clients to get out of their own way, embrace their power, choose "gutz over fear," & not let their worst enemy be between their own two ears. My clients learn the power & responsibility of choice, self-compassion when self-esteem fails, respect in accountability, grace when failing forward, and celebration & love of self.

My ideal client...Well it's anyone wondering why they are not getting what they want from life and relationships. I want to empower and help those that are feeling stuck and don't understand why after trying and trying they just can't seem to get ahead. Those that are wondering "Why am I constantly a "doormat", being taken advantage of or passed over?" I help those those that are having difficulty with having and getting what they need out of relationships with friends, family or romantic partners. I also help those that are struggling to find their voice or purpose in this world.

Relationships are hard work. You desire to be the individual that you are, but also try to figure out how to overcome the changes that being in a relationship can bring. Not all relationships are created equal. I want to help you cultivate a healthy relationship (whatever that may look like for you) as well as encourage a healthy relationship with yourself. I desire to provide you with a non-judgmental and empathetic environment where you feel safe to discuss your difficulties. It will be an honor for me to accompany you on your journey of realizing your potential, whether it be individually or in your relationship.

Life can be both exhilarating and terrifying! The world clouds our minds and emotions and sometimes we just need a safe place to sort it all out and CONNECT. I enjoy working with clients to help them find balance, to feel known, seen, respected and cherished in their relationships. We all have past hurt and fears and expectations that trip us up! I help clients understand themselves and their spouse better. From there we can begin to untangle and lay a new foundation built from purposeful communication, new emotional connection and intentional actions and habits that make life more solid. I welcome First Responders!

Sometimes our expectations don’t meet the reality of our life circumstances. Whether you are an exhausted mom trying to find your peace amidst chaos, a young adult confused about your future, or simply struggling in the daily grind of responsibilities, you may feel like you’re alone trying to navigate it all. Life seems to be catching up with you and each day you are spending more and more time pursuing things that take you away from who you are deep inside and who you always hoped to be. I am here to support you and listen. Together, we will work to get to the root of your struggles and find new ways to cope and move forward.

Hello and thank you for stopping by my page. Are you feeling stuck? On Edge? Depressed? Do you feel differently than you expect to feel and can't quite put your finger on what the feeling is, or where those feelings are coming from? Have you or your child experienced trauma (past or recent) and you are not sure how to work through it? I am here to guide you through this messy and often unpredictable process. Our experiences when we are very young shape us in myriad ways and we often get stuck in these seemingly unnoticeable patterns. It is never too late to uncover our authentic self through retraining our brain and body!

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
