I am here to form a strong relationship with you, to be genuine, compassionate and authentic.
When I’m in session with you I’m completely focused on you and your needs. Therapy is a special time for you to sort out your needs, wants and emotions in a safe way. I’m a Vietnam era veteran who has worked with combat veterans with severe PTSD combined with alcoholism and drug dependence for 22 years. Combat trauma and childhood trauma are frequently entwined within and create many life problems. Let me help you sort that out on your journey to healing. My sessions with you I consider sacred space and a place of healing. Owning your story takes bravery and is an integral part of the journey towards transformative change.

I would love to support you, your spouse, partner, teen, and family in this next step of healing.
If you are unfamiliar with marriage and family therapy, be assured that you don't have to be married or bring your family to therapy! Marriage and family therapists help individuals, couples, & families to view things from a systemic approach. This means how family behaviors, including our extended family, community, and other meaningful relationships, influence mental health. My experience includes assisting individuals, couples, and families suffering from trauma, sexual abuse, child and adult ADHD, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and supporting LGBTQIA+ youth and adults.

Is it time to prioritize what is important to you? I work with individuals and couples removing barriers, initiating and navigating change that leads to a life they value and enjoy.
Do you struggle with difficult emotions? Feel that something is missing? Unsatisfied with aspects of your life? Working together, I can help you learn to understand your feelings; untangle complicated emotions; increase positive experiences, improve communication and relationships; end cycles of depression and anxiety. Sometimes you feel the need or desire to initiate change. Other times change may present itself in a way that leaves you feeling that you have limited or no influence over your circumstances. I help people deal effectively with change.

I treat patients with erectile dysfunction, anorgasmia (the inability to orgasm), sexual pain, and other psychophysiologic sexual concerns. I also love working with couples, individuals, and polycules with relational challenges. Sometimes our challenge is not the way we relate to the world, but the way the world relates to us, so clients who are asexual, demisexual, sapiosexual, monogamous, or polyamorous are always welcome in my therapeutic space. Your relational (sociosexual) orientation is important! I also have an affinity for working with the BIPOC and LQTBQ+ community, as well as the kinky and neurodiverse.

Things can change! There is hope! Together we can focus on you gaining a greater measure of emotional, relational, and if faith is important to you, spiritual health. You've shown courage in coming this far! Keep moving forward.

Sometimes couples, families, and individuals, have gone through crises, trauma, or reached a time in their lives when coping skills, successful in the past, are no longer working.
Relationships are blessings in our lives but often a source of deep pain. I see so many children, families, and couples distressed with life: unable to experience the blessings; and unable to find peace and satisfaction. In those situations, communication patterns are often marked with defensiveness, criticism, and sometimes even contempt. Sometimes families and couples have stopped talking altogether, unable to find the caring and understanding that once filled their relationships. My practice specializes in Couples/Family relationships and communication challenges - helping folks learn to listen, understand, and love.

I specialize in helping people cope with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and managing home and/or work related stress.
Life presents us with many challenges. Everyone experiences a degree of distress or worry along the way. Therapy provides a safe, supportive partnership in which you can begin to understand your experiences, identify areas you’d like to change, build on strengths, and ultimately make choices to create a greater sense of well-being. Many individuals I work with are intelligent, accomplished people who feel they could benefit from a deeper exploration of the questions they are encountering with respect to career, relationships or personal identity. My style is warm and collaborative.

I have been in therapy, benefitted from therapy, and understand and respect the power of the counselor-client relationship.
Are you struggling with a mental health issue? Do you lack motivation, focus, and direction? Are you overwhelmed with life stressors and emotions? Are you living in the past, stuck, and unable to move forward? Do you use alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex or gaming to “cope” with life stressors? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you would benefit from counseling with an objective, nonjudgmental, and supportive therapist. Let me be that therapist for you. Life can be hard, stressful, and challenging but you do not have to navigate this trip alone.

At Kavod, we have an extensive and thorough program to help people and couples with problematic sexual behavior, relationship addictions, infidelity, pornography, and difficulties with intimacy.
You're troubled and don't know the way out. The strategies you may have tried--addictions, ruminating, blaming others or yourself, and secrecy--don't hold the answers and increase your suffering. I would be happy to talk with you about your situation and explore how therapy could help you find the way out. I understand about addiction, trauma, and the difficulty of feeling safe and learning to trust again. I can help you take charge of your life and solve problems so that you can cultivate happiness from within and create a better life for yourself.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
