Intimacy/Sexual issues can be difficult to discuss and people are reluctant. In fact, many people struggle with feelings of inadequacy/lack of fulfillment in relation to their sexual experience. Sexual dysfunctions affect both men and women. My desire is to help people struggling with sexual problems and to help people live a more fulfilled intimacy/sexual life. I provide a non-judgmental place for people to safely articulate their concerns. I will help you figure out what is causing these struggles and help resolve them. In addition to sexual issues, I also work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD and other issues.

Life can feel messy; and it is at times a place of stagnation, chaos, or just confusion. I challenge individuals to identify themselves, their passions, and to grow beyond the mask that life pushes us to wear as a means of protection or out of fear. It is in true authenticity that we find freedom and joy to move from isolation or bondage to freedom and fullness. It is in freedom where we no longer have to choose living in fear, rejection, pain, and/or competition but can chose to live with depth, substance, love, and understanding.

For many years my clients have primarily been individuals, groups, and families coming out of abusive and sometimes violent relationships and addiction. Although that was the original primary focus, most of them also struggled with other accompanying factors like depression, anxiety and other serious mental health diagnoses. My clinical focus has recently shifted to more of a community-based population. I have found this work incredibly rewarding. I enjoy working with additional needs such as grief, prenatal, postpartum depression, and abandonment trauma to name a few.

I like to think I have a unique skill set coupled with life experience that equips me to be a dynamic therapist. I served as a Marine in the military, spent 20 years working in the pathology field looking at healing the body and now work with clients from 5 years to older adult healing the mind. Therapy is difficult to navigate and can feel messy for the whole system (friends, family, work, school, and more). I value your experience and how that has shaped core beliefs. Because we have these core beliefs, doesn't make them true. Let's assign new rules to these beliefs and heal the system as a whole both in body and mind.

Populations Dr. Black has experience with include those struggling with depression, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, family-relational difficulties, learning disabilities, conduct disorder, substance use, disordered eating, and trauma. Typically, individuals she works with range in age from 3 to 18-years-old. However, Dr. Black has expanded her practice to work with adults ranging in age from 18 to 45-years-old.

I am passionate about working with families and their children. My goal is to help my clients identify what they can improve and guide them through achieving their personal goals, whether as an individual or a family unit. I thrive in working with teens and young adults who struggle with anxiety disorder, help my clients learn how to identify and engage in social and emotional life skills, and strongly encourages self-love and acceptance as a key tool in becoming a healthy, functioning individual. I apply cognitive approaches to engage clients in identifying root issues, processing those difficulties, and working through them.

Much of my work involves helping men and women who have found themselves in the grip of depression, anxiety, spiritual turmoil or are experiencing a loss of their sense of self. I'm an advocate for building emotional intelligence and helping others recover from the effects of toxic or emotionally manipulative relationships. Issues including church hurt, divorce recovery, infidelity, grief and loss, personality disorders and co-dependency are just a few more to name. Regardless the issue, I am drawn to understanding what true healing looks like for you. Are you actively healing or is the pain less because your triggers are absent?

We believe there is hope and positive change possible for each individual and family. Through faith-based counseling, we strive to empower clients to find Peace of Mind, knowing that many individual and family burdens can be relieved through the collaborative relationship working with a trained counselor. Our team has worked to obtain certificates in trauma assessment & interventions as well as acute stress, grief, loss, complex trauma, relational issues, religious wounding, substance abuse and crisis. These extra trainings have included specific measures that are necessary for work with the veteran and active military community.

The human experience can be challenging at times, but can also be beautiful and meaningful. Learning that both are normal parts of the journey can be empowering and allow one to reach our dreams and goals by overcoming the blocks and pain that keep us from reaching those dreams. We can learn to grow through pain, enjoy moments of pure joy and build community. I am a Licensed Masters Social Work, Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor, Equine Therapist and Certified Thanatologist along with EMDR training. I have worked with a wide variety of clients over the course of my 23-year career.

Finding a therapist you connect with is vulnerable. I work to form relationships with my clients first, so they feel comfortable opening up. Walking alongside clients in the counseling process is one of my greatest honors this side of heaven. I have over 20 years’ experience with adoptive families, children, and attachment. I am passionate about helping family, parents, and children navigate BIG changes in healthy ways. I understand first hand, being a parent of 6 beautiful adopted children myself, the challenges, emotions, fears, and successes that can come up along the way. I am skilled in attachment & view this as critical to understanding how people develop and navigate relationships. I consider myself an expert in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and can spot these symptoms and behaviors in both children and adults. Early intervention is KEY to successful outcomes.

I love working with children of all ages, adolescents, and young adults. I have worked with a wide range of issues including behavior issues, eating disorders, self-esteem, and body image issues. I have also worked with other challenges like anxiety, trauma, etc. People who suffer from these issues have needs and goals to be able to get them out of the negative eye and help improve their quality of life.

Considering therapy and choosing a therapist is a great first step toward change and healing. As a licensed professional counselor and certified grief counselor, my focus is on life transitions and grief in the adult population. I recognize tat grief comes in many forms throughout life. Whether you have found yourself here due to the loss of a relationship, job, sense of self, or death of a family member, friend, pet, etc., it is my mission to be a supportive listener.

Tierney graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with her Masters in Mental Health Counseling. Tierney has been working in Mental Health in a variety of settings including private practice, inpatient/PHP/IOP, University Counseling Centers, and short-term virtual mental health programming. Tierney as a practitioner sees herself as passionate about the patient/therapist alliance. She feels this is one of the most important factors in patient progress and healing, “We are co-pilots on this journey, I am not working for you, I am working with you”.
