In my work as a therapist, my first priority is to establish a comfortable, respectful working relationship that will allow my clients to begin to focus on the often difficult, painful and complex feelings, issues and situations that have brought them to counseling. My role is to listen carefully and thoughtfully, and to help guide and facilitate discussions that will help my clients to grow and change in beneficial ways, to resolve important conflicts and issues, and to reduce the severity of symptoms such as anxiety, depressed mood and difficulty managing anger.

Everyone can benefit from better self-understanding. Sometimes our anxiety, depression, and internal conflicts can affect our relationships with others and the world in which we live. By creating a safe environment for expressing thoughts and feelings, I am able to help those who enter into a therapeutic alliance with me improve general satisfaction in interpersonal relationships and life.

Many of my patients are recovering from addictions of various sorts. Many of them, as well as other patients, have mood disorders (anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder). I also work with individuals and families struggling with problems in work and career, marriage and similar relationships, and what are often described as existential or spiritual crises--the lack of a sense of meaning and purpose in life. I involve families in therapy when possible--people don't live and learn as isolated individuals.

With over 20 years of experience in the field of helping others, I have learned that making a genuine connection with people is the best way in which to begin the work of therapy. One of the most important skills I have to offer is to carefully and compassionately listen to what you have to say. We then go from there; when you are ready, we begin to look at how to change.

I have had productive therapeutic relationships with the adolescents, young adults and adults addressing their struggles with anxiety, depression, ADHD, substance abuse and anger management.
Telehealth only. Psychotherapy is a unique opportunity to develop awareness, gain hope, and create the opportunity for change in one's life. Therapy begins with a relationship between the clinician and the client. The first and foremost element of change is the clinician's enthusiasm, personality and competency. That relationship allows change to begin. Researchers have described the dimensions of an ideal therapeutic personality as one who is genuine, authentic, accepting and open. Feedback from my clients is that I demonstrate those ideal qualities.

I have a special interest in working with individuals or couple's on issues such as work, loss, achievement, stress, creativity, meaning, intimacy, addiction, self-esteem, anger, and anxiety.
We often find ourselves acting, feeling and thinking in ways that seem automatic, and no longer under our control. These feelings and actions are familiar, but aren't satisfying and are not working for us anymore. Together we can create other ways to respond to your life that will be more fulfilling.

It is not easy to start therapy treatment. An ideal client is a person that, even through all the fears, doubts and questions, takes the first step to start treatment and gives a chance to explore a new technique to find better balance in their life. There could be setbacks in the process but the most important thing is to stay constant. The client is willing to work in their goals and implement skills learned in every session. Also, to ask questions needed, even if they feel afraid, in order to be able to communicate with their therapist in a honest way.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
