Am I what you need? I am grounded in Christian faith, uniquely trained in family systems (seeing issues as relational & often due to attachment injuries), autism, child & adolescent trauma, big behaviors (tantrums, anger, oppositional defiance) and depression, isolation, ADHD, addictions, multi-generational trauma & parenting.
I have a heart for todays couples, families and children who are hurting. My passion is for that child or couple who have lost hope & unsure of where to turn. In a twisted, confusing relationship? Is untreated family of origin pain beginning to impact loved ones? As a Marriage, Family and Child Therapist (MFT), I've provided relief for many families. Evidence based, resiliency-focused, trauma-informed and FUN! It's how we learn. Bring me your ‘out of control,’ ‘unfixable’ & ‘unbearable.’ We will walk out from the darkness together. High Conflict Couple, ASD, Anxiety, ADHD, Anger, Oppositional or just lost, don't sit in it alone!

I have several specialties: cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders (such as panic disorder, excessive worrying, OCD, social anxiety), assessment of ADHD among older adolescent and adults, couples counseling, adolescent therapy, and I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
You or your adolescent may be experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional sensitivity, relationship issues or difficulty focusing. I have extensive experience as a doctoral-level cognitive behavioral therapist and I believe helping individuals understand how their thoughts and behaviors contribute to intense emotions is key to mental health. Challenging unhealthy thinking and learning how to think differently can be very effective. I teach specific and diverse skills and coach people on using them in real-life situations. I often share behavioral management techniques to help clients gain control over repetitive or compulsive actions and reduce anxiety in feared situations.

I have experience with adults and teenagers navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, major life transitions, grief, chronic health conditions, and exploring gender and sexuality beyond the binary.
One of the gifts of therapy is to sit with another person who will accept you as you are, witnesses the complexity of your life, and believes in your inherent goodness. I encourage clients to see “life as the curriculum” and embrace the process of continuous learning and growing. I'm neuro-informed and certified in Trauma Responsive Care and integrate embodied explorations from gentle movement, to writing and art making into my work with clients. I integrate experience as a yoga and mindfulness teacher by offering tools to help ground and regulate. I bring warmth, playfulness, abundant compassion, and humor to my work with clients.

Life can throw a lot at us. Sometimes it may feel as if we are carrying the weight of the world by ourselves. That is not an easy task. When life is throwing challenges, weighing us down, or making our worlds feel like chaos, we may ask, “What can I do? Where can I turn?” Finding and navigating balance in life is something you do not have to do alone. Beginning or continuing your mental health care is one way to help. In our day-to-day, we may face stress, anxiety, and struggle with depression.

We are all hooked by specific narratives. These narratives are beliefs and opinions we have about ourselves, our lives, and the world. You are here because you are ready to change yours. This may be scary - and very hard at times- but it is possible. I am here to help you clarify your goals, explore alternative perspectives, develop coping strategies, cultivate self-compassion, and facilitate growth and change. I love working with teens and adults experiencing life transitions, whether it's those characterized by career changes or sudden onset of disability symptoms.

As a counselor, I often encounter hurting people who need help healing their emotional and relational challenges. People often get stuck in life whether it be their thinking or behaviors that keep them trapped and unable to move forward in living the life they want. We all face challenges in life that we need help in navigating that next step. Relationships can be difficult to navigate sometimes and we just want to know how to break free from the cycle we are in so that we can enjoy each other and life again without the stress of the past and concerns of the future.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
