I work primarily with adults and adolescents aged 12+ and especially love working with people with Asperger's disorder, adult ADHD, and those struggling with anger management issues.
Marriage counseling is my passion, and I provide a scientifically supported treatment called EFT--Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT is a relatively short-therm therapy, usually 8-20 weeks, with a 75-90% success rate. In addition to marriage counseling, I provide individual and family therapy for a variety of issues, such as depression, anxiety, anger management, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, phobias, parenting difficulties, grief/loss, and career issues.

Empowering people to problem-solve and consider other options to problems has always been a passion of mine, which I turned into a career. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Illinois and Texas. I work with young adults and adults who have struggles with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and family conflict. I see clients virtually only on Grow Therapy and Headway. I am willing to have a 15 minute consult to see if I am a right fit for your needs.

Certifications in trauma, anxiety, ADHD and anger management.
Sometimes an individual may just need skills to move through a “life transition,” clarify life goals, and prioritize steps for reaching those goals. This is more of a coaching situation, and I would love to coach you through this life transition. Finally, I view the therapeutic alliance as a partnership requiring mutual trust, respect, honesty, communication, and commitment to do the work.

My name is Angela Kaiser and I landed in Marriage and Family Therapy because I see the world through a systemic lens. Basically, the people we are surrounded by influence us and we have an influence on the people around us. I am a firm believer that you are never stuck, that you don’t have to live life feeling exhausted, that you are capable of overcoming the thing that’s keeping you down. You are not broken. What I have to offer you as a therapist is a safe space to be heard, a place to heal, and help you reach your goals. I approach therapy believing you are the expert in your own life, and I get to offer an outside perspective.

As a marriage and family therapist, I view therapy from a systemic perspective. This means that my focus is not on individuals, but on relationships. The focus of treatment from this perspective is on interactions within systems, such as family and society, even when working with an individual. I believe effective therapy is based on faith that every individual or family has the ability to affect change within their own relationships. While I encourage clients to bring important relationships into therapy, I am qualified to work with clients one-on-one.

No matter how "together" you may appear on the outside, when you are hurting on the inside, life can feel overwhelming. I understand how challenging stubborn and worn-out old patterns and dynamics can be. I always seek to create a warm, down-to-earth, and nurturing environment where you can feel safe and protected. I meet you where you are in your life. You are the expert of your story and we go at your pace. There is no judgment or expectation for you to talk or perform. This is your journey toward greater self-awareness, growth and healing.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
