I've helped hundreds of people break free from drug and alcohol addictions by customizing programs and inspiring change.
Family members often call me to help intervene on a family member and help them start a path to recovery. I have been sober for more than 12 years. I am certified as an interventionist, trained in the ARISE method, and also a certified addiction recovery coach. We can intervene on a family member in a matter of days, and we can start them on successful recovery this week.

As a clinician I treat adults who have histories of trauma, substance abuse/dependency issues, anxiety and depressive disorders, personality disorders, co-occurring disorders, and very relevant to the times we are living in, I work with many individuals who feel intense loneliness and isolation.
My therapeutic approach focuses on my belief that when it comes to an individual’s life, they are the expert. As a therapist, it is my job to be expert on theory and techniques, to assist client's in realizing their own capabilities of deciding where they want to go, and I encourage the strengths within themselves to pursue wherever that is and to identity what that will take to get there. First, however, I must address the level of resistance a client shows. My treatment heavily looks at aspects of internalization, pulls from psychoanalytic theories of neurosis, specifically signal anxiety, and focuses on realizing personal agency.

With over two decades of dedicated practice in clinical social work, I bring a depth of understanding and compassion to my work with adults and couples. My areas of expertise include guiding individuals through the complexities of depression, anxiety, and relationship challenges. As a therapist trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I journey with clients through the shadows of past traumas to the light of healing. Throughout this process, we gently unravel and reweave the tapestries of their lives, transforming pain into resilience.

Everyone encounters problems in their lives. Most of us, most of the time feel able to overcome them or weather the storm and find a way forward. Yet most of us, at some point face problems which feel overwhelming and for which we need outside help. Regardless of how severe or long-standing your problems are I am confident I can help. Learning new ways of being and adjusting how we take care of ourselves and our life can and should be empowering, positive, and uplifting.

New Updates! I am accepting new clients! Your goals feel out of reach. You know, at least vaguely, what they are; but they seem very hard to get to. Maybe things have become unmanageable. Are you drinking or eating too much? Are your work stressors piled on too high? Is a relationship feeling toxic? If these things were just "unstuck", could you move forward? You want to help yourself, your loved ones, maybe even the world, if you could just get there. Your open minded and determined; you just need a little help. Then welcome aboard. Give me a call and lets Conquer these Challenges, together!

It takes courage to speak with a therapist, but the potential rewards outweigh the risk of opening up. I have experience helping adults and older adolescents with anxiety, mood disorders, relationship problems, addictions, trauma, and coping with disease, among other concerns. I work with each patient to forge a strong working relationship and I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment for open communication.

Covid-19 has brought the world of mental health fragility to a new level never seen before. The isolation and loneliness felt by everyone from children to the elderly has caused a rise in depression, anxiety and fear regarding every day life and the future. These strains are unhealthy emotionally and physically and need attention to avoid lasting impressions. The working relationship in therapy is to define underlying issues, stuck thought patterns and transform negative behavior to evolve into a positive and thriving attitude and consequently, life choices. We will join together to create the life you desire, as I help guide you.

Therapy can help you work through problems that feel too big or overwhelming to tackle alone. Together, in a warm and confidential space, we can begin to explore what is making you feel anxious or stuck without judgement or fear. In therapy with me, you will be seen as an individual person with unique desires and experiences, not a collection of symptoms or issues. In session, you can expect liveliness and candor as we discuss the things you wish to explore: relationships, work, worries, goals and sense of self.

We all experience bumps in the road during life, such as traumas, divorce, family issues, or loss of loved ones. Receiving support and understanding from an outside perspective can give you clarity of how these events shape us and our relationships. I firmly believe that having a collaborative partnership with an empathetic counselor is crucial in this process - one who truly sees and values you. Together, we can map out a better picture of how your life events affected paths made along the way and use these insights to improve your relationships and develop your goals into realities.

As men, many of us have been taught to hold in our feelings… often leading to pent-up anger… too much drinking… acts of rage. We have been taught that talking about feelings is a sign of weakness. In his book, MEN’s LIVES, about the history of fishermen on Long Island’s East End, Peter Matthiessen quotes a young man in 1929, “ … no one could have a happier moment … than to be asked to be one of the boat crew by a captain you had always admired …the honor soon became a reality… the achin, achin of every muscle….. I must endure without a word.”

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
