I provide psychotherapy to a diverse population and in all age groups, and I've worked in a residential, IOP/PHP settings treating eating disorders and general mental health concerns.
Acculturation is the process of adopting cultural traits or social norms of another group, and is a common experience for individuals who have migrated. People who migrate often encounter stress and adjustment problems with limited access to mental health support. Relationship and family conflicts, traumatic experiences, life transition challenges, loss, problems related to boundary setting, poor self-esteem and self-concept are common issues, only to name a few. The goal of therapy is to help you become most resilient and adaptive in your family and community by managing these challenging circumstances.

I have considerable experience treating depression, anxiety related disorders, relationship issues, self-esteem, intrusive thoughts, trauma, eating disorders, and mood disorders.
Counseling is supposed to be convenient, effective and helpful. Through evidenced based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and DBT, we are able to process trauma, explore and establish coping skills, and slowly but surely, start living again. I've worked in the nonprofit sector helping victims of domestic violence as well as other issues to include addiction, personality disorders, and family conflict. I work with the LGBTQ community and take pride in working with multicultural clients.

Through talk therapy, let’s learn how to cope with whatever life wants to throw at you without turning towards harmful coping strategies, such as isolation, eating disorders, over-exercise, toxic relationships, zoning out, etc.
Feeling overwhelmed by life. I’ve been there! We all deal with being overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed differently. Whether you busy yourself all day and night with work, projects, and people, or you space out and go numb watching tv, I get it. Everyone needs a safe space to talk about life and what is going on internally and externally. With me, we will chat about it. We will laugh, cry, and learn a few things, but most importantly, we will take it at your pace.

It is a joy and honor for me to meet with people wherever they are on their journey in life towards healing. Working from the belief that healing begins and is nurtured in the context of safe and healthy relationships, I seek to hold a safe space for people to be authentic about their struggles and then collaborate with clients to work through their issues. I believe that people are created as physical, spiritual, and emotional beings and I seek to connect all aspects of a person’s life in order to help them move towards the holistic healing and wellness they desire.

My clients would describe me as supportive, honest, and ready to work. I believe therapy is something everyone can truly benefit from at some point in their lives. I take a tailored approach suited for individual clients, parents, and families and their individual issues. I am very goal driven and like to get things done in session. I like to work with clients to establish a solid foundation so they are equipped to handle difficult circumstances life throws their way. Its extremely important to help clients feel like they can independently walk through life while effectively coping with curve balls.

Making the decision to seek support can be a difficult task and shows courage. Opening up and sharing your private thoughts, emotions, fears, and experiences with a therapist can be frightening. However within a trusting, confidential, and healthy therapeutic relationship it can also be rewarding and a great benefit. I make it a point to never take for granted the gift clients give in revealing their personal history in the context of therapy. I endeavor to assist you in gaining insight, use new approaches to aid in making positive adjustments in your interpersonal, family, social, and work life.

Not accepting new clients
Everyone has the capability to free themselves from what keeps them feeling stuck. You deserve the choice to take care of yourself and your relationships, to feel worthy, and to live authentically. It can be exhausting to feel like it is your responsibility to take care of everyone around you before turning towards yourself, leaving you feeling unheard and undervalued. I want to collaborate with you towards finding comfort, balance, and wholeness in yourself and your relationships. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and queer individual, welcoming all aspects of who you are into therapy. Accepting new clients!

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
