In my work with individuals and couples many of my clients tell me that I have a warm and interpersonal approach. I help them feel comfortable and take a very collaborative approach. In marriage counseling, I try to help couples prioritize their marriage and work to help both of them feel more heard and understood as a person. I am passionate about helping people develop healthy relationships, achieve personal growth and experience emotional wholeness. It is my goal to bring hope, guidance, and a safe place for individuals or couples to explore the nature their challenges.

As a therapist I have a kind and warm approach to all clients and and I hope to meet you where you currently are at when you enter my office. I want to walk with you on your therapeutic journey and journey of self discovery. I hope as a team we can collaborate. We will work to identify areas for improvement and to challenge each person in order to improve their quality of life, and to live their life to the fullest. I work to help individuals utilize their current strengths to help them find more success in managing stressors, painful emotions, and to navigate through difficult relationships. I am also bilingual in Spanish.

While we are taught how to drive, how to cook, etc., we are rarely given an education on how to cope with the stressors of our daily lives. Through understanding, validation, and support, I help my clients achieve their full potential. By providing support and insight, my clients have the opportunity to work at their own pace and deal with issues that they feel are preventing them from moving forward. In my practice, I try to provide both emotional support and tools that can be used beyond the therapy session.

At times, challenges in life seem to be obstacles to our fulfillment and happiness, though in reality these obstacles present opportunities – opportunities to reflect, change and grow. These changes can make us more resilient and make our lives more manageable and meaningful. During these troubled times we often believe that nothing can help. We see our situation less clearly due to our distress and are unaware of our options. But with the guidance of a trained therapist we can discover the gift of working on ourselves. My experience has proven time and again that therapy can be a life changer.

Through their work at The Heart of Counseling and Wellness, clients learn ways to break negative behavioral patterns, gain healthy coping tools, and receive psychoeducation on mental health. Our main focus is intergenerational trauma. We work with our clients to gain an understanding of what happened to them and how it affects how they show up today. In some ways, the decision you’re about to make is the hardest part of this process. Choosing the right therapist and “type of therapy” can be confusing. That’s why I’d like to explain a little about my training and my approach to make your choice a little easier. My training taught me that by knowing what to listen for, I can connect your symptoms to your past life experiences. Once we start to do that, I will help you identify the reasons those experiences were hard to resolve. When something is hard to resolve, we tend to avoid it, which is why our mind then tells us that something still feels unresolved by producing symptoms.

My goal is to create an open and safe environment where you can: raise your concerns, fears and needs; become more accepting of yourself; clarify your goals; and determine how you can work to achieve your goals and resolve current challenges.

I received my MA in counseling from Northwestern University where I was trained in psychodynamic therapy (a common form of talk therapy). However, I am also a trained Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. I specialize in life transitions and know that any change, positive or not, can at times be difficult.
