I believe all people generally have the resources to help themselves, yet sometimes simply need a safe, trustworthy professional to help work through issues, identify goals, make healthy decisions and take steps necessary to live life more fully. I use an integrative approach that draws largely from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solutions-focused and cognitive behavioral theories. I recognize and respect the fact that individuals have widely varying perspectives and needs. Lastly, I am fully virtual and offer either phone or video sessions.

I am a seasoned, compassionate therapist, with over 25 years of counseling experience in assisting you to navigate life and heal inside & in your various relationships. EMDR is the most powerful tool for healing that I have acquired to help you find inner strength and peace. Along with EMDR, I have been trained in an adjunct treatment called LENS to reset the brain and optimize its functioning and ability to calmly focus. These adjunct treatments turn out to be a winning combination for many seeking inner peace, healthy self-esteem, & more wholeness. I am also skilled in helping you gain and maintain your addiction recovery.

Not interested in taking medications? At The Well Being, we provide our clients with skilled and experienced therapists, and an opportunity to begin using cardiovascular exercise as an effective mental health "medication" . At The Well Being, we offer traditional outpatient counseling services, while also providing the means for exercise to become a key component of your treatment. This is an alternative evidence-based approach for those who aren't interested in taking medications, or a more comprehensive alternative for those who are.

We navigate new and stressful situations on a daily basis. Sometimes we are satisfied with our ability to respond. At other times, we feel stuck, inadequate, or unable to find a purpose for moving forward. Maybe we missed something significant, fell into an old and unwanted pattern, or wish things would go differently in our relationships. Whether looking through a lens of deficit or strength, family influence or individual accomplishment, spiritual background, relationships, trauma history, or any other way of filtering our experiences, we are constantly learning more about ourselves.

During these uncertain times, people are struggling to feel connected. I am offering video sessions via Doxy.me, which is a secure format for video sessions. This format can be a way to feel less isolated and to address any anxiety related to this current reality. By learning ways to integrate your strengths and weaknesses, patterns of behavior that may be hindering your personal growth can be relieved and your life can become more rewarding. Working together, we can address familial issues, anxiety, depression, addictions or any self-injurious behavior that is hindering your full potential.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
