Therapy is a great way to help you turn the pain you feel today into the strength you feel tomorrow. My philosophy is simple “I help people become an expert on one subject, themselves”! We as human beings are very complex and often need help to navigate through stress, trauma, and life challenges. I witnessed first hand how therapy can change the trajectory of one’s life. I am committed to working alongside my clients to help them find their inner healing and peace. I have worked with many different cultures, genders, and people from different backgrounds. Licensed in MI and TN

Wanting something different, but struggling, is part of being human. We all find ourselves repeating patterns that are unhealthy or unhelpful. I will work with you to understand how these patterns came to be and how you can create new ways of being in the world. Together, we will work to minimize stress and anxiety, find more effective ways of coping and affect the genuine change you desire.

Welcome! I specialize in working with parents in the perinatal period and families with young children. I often hear similar questions, whose needs do I attend to first? Is this behavior from my child typical or something more concerning? Should I talk about the trauma with my child or could that make it worse? Am I doing this parenting thing right? Parenting is incredibly hard and truthfully, there is no single right way to parent. But you don’t have to sit with those thoughts or questions alone; together we can explore the patterns and experiences of your family, ask questions, and identify what you value most as a parent.

Oftentimes, it feels impossible to move forward when we feel paralyzed by our thoughts and feelings. I’m here to help foster a safe space in order for you to heal and grow as an individual. My specialties include depression, anxiety and stress, interpersonal and/or relationship challenges, generational trauma, PTSD, neurodiversity, and transationally adopted individuals. Not accepting new clients
My approach to the therapeutic relationship is to establish a warm, collaborative, supportive, and useful relationship that helps the client meet their personal needs for emotional growth, healthy relationships, and understanding their deep-seated reactions to their environment. I strive to meet people where they are at, without judgement, to help overcome any barriers they are facing externally or internally. I rely on establishing a relationship where all emotions/needs/fears/critiques are welcome, and everything is worth talking through in a safe space. I am committed to anti-racism, queer-friendliness, and I reject diet culture.

Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
