Hello, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor working in the field since 1994. I enjoy helping adults and their families heal and gain new insight and tools with individual, couples and family therapy. I work with people in a collaborative manner with a focus on the mind/body connection and healing from a holistic and cognitive/behavioral approach with ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) for quick resolution of trauma. It is my belief that everyone has the power within themselves for positive change but may need guidance, support and new tools to reach their goals.

I provide an empathetic, collaborative, and integrative approach to loss, trauma, meaning and identity, and mood disorders. In my practice, I primarily work with individuals and families who have experienced trauma, grief, end of life concerns, chronic illness, and mood disorders. I use a multicultural and trauma-informed humanistic approach to working with adults as well as children and adolescents. My educational background includes being EMDR trained (EMDRIA approved) and I have a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Vanderbilt and a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Rollins College.

Saundra is a clinically licensed mental health counselor with 23 years of experience of assessing, diagnosing, and treating children, adolescents, adults and families. She is experienced with using cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, client-centered therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-informed therapy, grief therapy and strength-based therapy and other treatment modalities. Christian Counseling is available upon request. Throughout the process of therapeutic engagement and collaboration, the client’s treatment goals are identified and a unique and personalized treatment plan is developed.

As a therapist, I feel bringing a nurturing and non-judgmental approach when working with different situations and encouraging strength and personal growth is important for therapeutic relationships. Most of my experience involves behavioral work such as defiance in children; teen issues, adult issues, anxiety, depression, grief, anger management, attachment issues, relationship issues, and family issues. I believe all behavior has a purpose and finding what is motivating the behavior is how we learn to manage difficult situations. Together, we explore avenues towards personal growth and emotional healing.

Most people feel when something is wrong, we notice symptoms that we do not feel well or people close to us make a comment about our behavior. At times, people don’t even realize that there might be something behind those symptoms that is making me feel or react certain way. Sometimes we have been feeling this way for so long that we get used to it, we think “that’s who I am”, we lose hope and motivation because we don’t think things can be different, we don’t know where to start or if there’s anything that can be done or if anyone can understand or help. Taking those first steps to move out of our comfort zone can create fear.

From my experiences teaching high school and working with teenagers, to my time working at the Orlando Health Cancer Center, and Victim Service Center counseling SV survivors, I seek to help anyone achieve their goals. I can help clients work through life change, depression, anxiety, and more. Specifically, I want to help clients find more meaning out of their lives each day, as well as increase a confidence and understanding in who that client is an individual. These factors increase resilience which make us more likely to face whatever challenges come our way in life.

It takes courage to address the loneliness, heartache, fear and confusion we face as humans. I offer space for a person to untangle their hurt and confusion and address their messy emotions. I believe our stories matter. Our life experiences shape us. No one escapes suffering. Life is hard. Everyone has experienced a broken heart and shattered dreams. Experiences of abuse, rejection, and trauma contort the soul. Our soul responds to self, God and others with these contorted relational patterns that connect or sabotage relationships. Soul contortions are addressed with compassion and respect as we journey towards restoration.
