I incorporate evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) along with mindfulness-based skills.
I believe we all possess the innate capacity to heal, grow and overcome life's challenges. Sometimes, we just need a little help to move us through periods when we're feeling stuck or dissatisfied with the way things are. Drawing on my decade of experience in this field, my goal is to support you in increasing insight and awareness into these struggles, and to provide you with the tools to leverage your inner strengths, move forward and live a more fulfilling life.

I use elements of Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my sessions.
Right now, I'm trying to put myself in your shoes. The first question that I typically ask my clients is "What brings you here today?" You will answer that question in a way that only you can. Reaching out for help isn't easy. It's a lesson in vulnerability. You're taking the first step by searching for a professional and trying to make sense of the way you're feeling right now.

I use methods such as cognitive behavior therapy which can include homework assignments, motivational interviewing which will help to explore and resolve ambivalence.
When you determine that you should seek counseling services I keep in mind that each individual is different biologically, psychologically, sociologically and economically. I also understand that receiving a diagnosis will have an impact on you, your family, friends, lifestyle and social situation. As a counselor I am aware that left untreated many disorders can escalate and in some cases as in substance abuse cause chemical changes in the brain, with mental disorders left untreated can have a negative impact on your life.

I utilize a combination of theoretical approaches including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and relational therapy.
Throughout my career treating those with substance abuse and mental health issues, I have learned that one of therapy's most healing aspects is the relationship and trust we build with one another. I strive to create a space where you can be your authentic self without judgment because when that is possible the work of healing can begin.

I welcome all backgrounds and identities, and cater to each individual, while focusing on feminist therapy, internal family systems and other specific techniques such as mindfulness, DBT, CBT, and motivational interviewing.
Beginning the healing process can feel quite daunting and understandably so. The good news is that narratives can be unlearned! I challenge my clients to turn inward and learn how to consciously trust their natural intuition while gaining awareness towards a deeper sense of self. Here, we will explore the body and mind connection, and how it relates to your current coping and behavior. Whether you have spent years in therapy or if this is your first time, you can anticipate a judgment-free space informed by creativity, humor, and compassion.

My clinical training in CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), allows me to have a unique perspective to help individuals identify what is keeping them stuck and find ways to create a new narrative to their lives. In addition to trauma, I work with individuals with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, low self-esteem, addictions, ADHD, and relationship concerns.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
