I use mindfulness & Internal Family Systems therapy to help clients resolve their underlying trauma and grief issues that get in the way of having fulfilling lives and relationships. I combine warmth and compassionate listening with teaching clients skills to learn to better manage their feelings, including anxiety and depression, while using breathing, body-centered, and other spiritual principles to help clients heal. Clients will learn to heal themselves and build more satisfying relationships and futures for themselves and their families. The techniques I use apply well to both children and adults to help clients deal with adverse behaviors and addictions.

I enjoy helping people do their deeper therapeutic work. I've been in practice for over 30 years, and it continues to feel like a privilege to play the role I do in people’s lives. By day, I support adolescents managing acute crises in my role as a high school Crisis Clinician. By night, I turn my attention to adults, who have moved beyond a period of acute crisis and reached a point of stabilization. Many people live their lives with the effects of trauma, and often feel stuck when they try to make powerful transitions or internalize positive changes. This is the area of support I am passionate about.

Each of us experience stress, anxiety, depression, and grief throughout life, and the need for love, safety, respect, and nurturing. The question isn't whether you can eliminate these feelings and needs; rather the question to ask is; "How do I take responsibility for fully understanding myself?" I declare that everyone is being called to discover themselves in the deepest sense. "What is your spirit communicating to you?" "What do you need to live a healthy life?" As you ponder these questions, I believe that your pain is what pushes you and your vision is what pulls you through life.

Just when we feel our lives are in alignment with our desires, life disturbances happen, and the impact can leave us feeling as if everything we have worked for is now unraveling. The feelings of failure, shame, and guilt can easily creep up in take over any successes we have accomplished. We sometimes struggle to find our footing after. Let us help you get back to a place of self-fulfillment.

I have always gained great satisfaction from helping people feel happier and in learning more effective ways to achieve more fulfilling lives. Those clients who are eager and open to learning more about themselves in order to achieve these goals benefit most from my approach as a therapist. I often focus, therefore, on insight, meaning, and symbols (including dream interpretation)in order to help clients establish a more positive and accepting perspective of themselves and others. In therapy, I work with obstacles against achieving these goals that include anxiety, depression, addictions, anger, and interpersonal and relationship issues.

Have you been conditioned to be quiet, to second-guess yourself, to feel hopeless, disempowered, or powerless? If you identify as a female, you've landed on the right profile for beginning your journey towards empowerment, healing, growth, and unveiling your true authentic self. Whether you are trying to conceive, endured a pregnancy loss, stillbirth or termination, have one or ten children, are a step-mother, going through fertility treatments, are a single mother, adopting, or not driving down this road at all and do not relate to childbearing, I would be honored to work with you. Empowering women is a hallmark in my practice.

Hello :) My name is Tricia and I’m a licensed professional counselor with over ten years of experience in the mental health field! I consider myself to be a caring, down-to-earth and thoughtful counselor who is best equipped to serve clients who are striving to understand themselves better, who are seeking deeper meaning in life and who want to liberate themselves from dysfunctional living. I believe that we are all capable as humans to heal and influence our lives beyond our greatest imaginations! I also believe that while transformation can feel heavy at times, it can also be fun, interesting and more cathartic than many know.

In facing life’s challenges, I believe in the importance of asking ourselves, “What’s right with me?” and identifying and building on our strengths. I enjoy accompanying people in exploring themselves with non-judgmental curiosity as they develop greater awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and ways of dealing with whatever life has in store. How have these been influenced by personal experiences growing up and by larger social factors? Gaining this insight allows us to discover what changes might be right for us or to come to accept ourselves just as we are.

I am a strength-based and collaborative therapist who utilizes systems theory, narrative therapy, social justice and trauma focused models. I also provide EMDR for clients both as individuals and within couples work. I believe that clients are the experts in their own lives. I believe every client has the right and ability to author their own story. I am passionate about working with those suffering from trauma (including as the result of experiencing oppression), grief and loss, life changes, family conflict, anxiety and depression as well as any problem getting in the way of connection with others and self.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
