Hi. The mind is very similar to our physical bodies; symptoms develop to let us know that something is amiss. Environments, stress, and trauma influence these symptoms. As our physical bodies seek to heal themselves, so does our minds. Difficulties can be looked at as opportunities for growth. I seek to come alongside and work together to help the healing and growth through therapy and if need be medication. Medication is not sufficient alone. Just as the physical body seeks to heal itself when hurt, so the mind/soul with encouragement can heal.

I received Baccalaureate Degrees in Psychology and Nursing from the University of Washington in 1988, and a Master's Degree in Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Washington in 2007. I worked in inpatient and outpatient settings as a Psychiatric Nurse and have experience working with children, adolescents and adults in an outpatient setting as a Psychiatric ARNP. As an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I see patients 18 yo and older, which means that in addition to other tools I've gained from my advanced training, I can prescribe medication when necessary. Medication management is an important component of what I do, and when it's needed, I work collaboratively to find a regimen that works best for you. When you come to me, you may have been working with another practitioner, tried a variety of other approaches, or may be taking a step toward treatment for the first time.

If a client for instance, has depression and anxiety, we will discuss how it affects their life. Talk about what triggers make it worse, and how they handle the symptoms. For compliance, we collaborate on the best plan of care. I present the options for medications, benefits, alternatives, side effects, and encourage therapy as a great combination with the medication.
