I am a board certified psychiatrist with second board certification in child and adolescent psychiatry. My passion is to work with all age ranges from treating a broad range of diagnosis. I have an extensive experience working with child/ Adult population. Our office is at a very convenient location with easy access to private/public transportation. We have flexible schedule including evenings and weekend appointments. We are accepting new patients with short wait time.

I'm board-certified in both General Psychiatry as well as Child & Adolescent Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I have a variety of special interests including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, genetics, evolutionary psychology and issues impacting the LGBT community. I'm enthusiastic about teaching and will always go into detail about the nature of psychiatric illness and the impact of medication. I try to keep a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere for all ages.

I do not believe in the current practice of symptomatic medicine. It has proven ineffective and has divided the practice of medicine into specialties, forgetting that the body functions in a constant state of homeostasis- all systems reliant on each other to function optimally. I believe that treating the underlying issue, down to the molecular basis, is what needs to be addressed in order to treat and eventually heal the disease. Unfortunately diseases have been categorized into separate entities when there is a common thread that is shared between them. My goal is to heal the mind & body as whole through integrative medicine.

Joel L. Young M.D. is medical director of the Rochester Center for Behavior Medicine (RCBM) and the Cofounder and Chief Medical Officer of MindMetrix. RCBM is staffed by over 80 mental health professionals with years of experience in the treatment of the ADHD, depression, anxiety, and other current mental health disorders. He has given hundreds of lectures locally and throughout the country regarding his areas of specialty. He has published textbook chapters and articles on many of these topics and contributed essays on mental health public policy and other psychiatric issues.

I work with adults and adolescents with a wide variety of emotional problems. Typically this may manifest in difficulties in relationships or professional performance, or in symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Ideally they would have a curiosity about themselves, a willingness to explore and understand their emotional world more fully in psychotherapy. They would understand that this type of growing awareness can facilitate profound changes in their behavior, relationships and symptoms.

I would rather teach a skill than prescribe a pill, but I will. In other words, if you or someone you know is on or in need of psychiatric medications, yet would prefer to explore other ways to address their current circumstances, my practice is a great fit. This may include those who have tried multiple medications in the past and have had less then optimal success, found that they are very sensitive to medication effects, or wish to explore alternatives such as; learning mind/emotion/stress management skills, herbal or supplement alternatives (orthomolecular medicine), and spiritual practices to support their healing process.
