Laura Young is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Kansas who has been practicing since 2021. Laura was born and raised in Kansas. Her post high school education began at Kansas City Kansas Community College, obtaining her Associates of Science in Nursing in 2009 at the young age of 20 years old on a presidential scholarship awarded from high school. She then went on to working as a bedside nurse for over 12 years. Laura went back to college, obtaining her Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2018 while working.

I graduated with my Masters in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialty and Doctorate in Nursing (DNP) degrees from Duke University, ranked the best graduate nursing program in the country for the last 4 years. I am an APNA board member in the Kansas state chapter, have published research in the Journal of Emergency Nurses, and am adjunct faculty in Duke's graduate nursing program. I provide evidence-based psychiatric care to help people achieve their goals. This includes creating an empathetic, safe environment. Many patients value a treatment approach that is holistic and considers their unique needs.

I work with clients to increase their understanding of the thoughts and behavior patterns they have today. I use a multifaceted approach to walk clients through their life experiences lived so far in hopes to bring honor and restoration to those experiences, which is often referred to as their “story”. I believe every story is worth being told. In individual therapy, I provide a safe place that welcomes the storytelling of every individual.

I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, and Bipolar disorders primarily as well as many other miscellaneous concerns. I believe in treating the whole person in order to achieve mental wellbeing and improve daily functioning. I am also used to working in close collaboration with therapists (where applicable) as part of a managed care team. We are looking to integrate intranasal Ketamine therapy (Spravato) in the year 2024 for people who have a deep depression that they just cannot shake.

I graduated from The Menninger Clinic and pursued studies in environmental medicine, nutrition, biochemistry, auricular medicine, homeopathy and bioenergy healing. My practice incorporates spiritual, energetic meditative therapies and traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy, stress management, dreamwork, imagery, and behavior modification. I provide necessary information to choose a path toward wellness, rather than suppressing symptoms with drugs. Your spiritual beliefs are honored to facilitate your movement towards healing. I start my Psychiatric nursing career since 1996. Throughout the years old practice, I have extended education, knowledge, and experiences in helping children, adult, and geriatric population with mental and behavioral health issues such as: ADHD, Anxiety disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Bipolar and related issues, Childhood mental health concerns, Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and other severe psychiatric disorders. In addition, I am certified by PSI in managing women with mental health issues during childbearing age.
