We have the power to improve our mental health. We can choose what to think about and challenge & reframe our thoughts; live by our own values rather than by others' expectations; focus outward to create purpose, surround ourselves with good people and good energy. Ideally my patient is as invested in their care as I am. They could have a variety of diagnoses but the thing they have in common is they are willing to give the process time, are open to new ideas, and know there is no magic pill to fix all their problems. My patients want to get to the best version of themselves and are willing to try therapy as well as medications to help them reach that goal. My patient wants an empathetic, listening provider who can guide their care based on the evidence, but tailored to their individual needs.

I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner and clinical social worker who believes deeply that psychiatry should equal science plus soul. As a queer & trans person, I also know that it can be hard to find LGBTQIA-affirming care out there. My background informs a passion for helping you overcome shame, differentiate yourself from the environment around you, find and honor your true self, and navigate the middle path through struggle. If you are grappling with addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, or need affirming care, I am invested in helping you thrive.

Rather than focusing on diagnosis, my practice has centered on the individual, with the strength of the relationship being central. The uniqueness of every individual as special and worthy has motivated my care and compassion in the implementation of the treatment most helpful for that individual. I have valued the spirit and soul of each individual as I skillfully determined the medicine and lifestyle needed for change. My early years as a psychotherapist were influenced by Shamanic practices, as well as a commitment to meditation and mindfulness; these have enabled me to be the channel for the change needed by my clients,

EMDR Psychiatrists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
