"Many know what ADD looks like, but not what it feels like. I present a unique opportunity to explore the nature of ADD firsthand. You are invited to partake in activities that simulate ADD experiences. An insider's view helps to inform discussion on effective ways to refocus energy and harness creativity. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of their thought process and ways in which they can overcome (or help others overcome) distraction. This workshop sheds light on experiences of tangent pursuit, sensory bombardment, and environmental dependency/transition trouble."

I often collaborate with practitioners in the integrative medical community or ADD coaching community to fully support clients on their health journey.
I bring both understanding and caring to the therapeutic relationship. I’ve been a therapist and supervisor for over 25 years and have specialties in working with people who struggle with depression, learning differences and attentional difficulties that result in performance anxiety. I help with ADD self-management. I am also a Lyme Literate counselor and as such work with folks with chronic complex illness. In the work that I do, I have found it key to highlight and appreciate differences in perception so we can explore how they might lead to communication barriers. Celebrating diversity and uniqueness is important to healing.

It is known that the interplay between infections, toxicity and inflammation can lead to neurological and psychiatric manifestations. This group explores effective ways of coping with chronic illnesses that play such a role (Lyme disease, environmental /mold illness, etc). Enhancing aspects of medical care management, decreasing isolation and improving patient understanding of factors affecting their illness is paramount to wellness. In this group setting, the interactions between brain and behavior, physical health and emotional wellbeing are highlighted. Skill-building includes the introduction of trauma-informed work of dynamic neural (amygdala/brain) retraining.

Taking a step to admit that things are not right in your life is difficult, but there is no shame in that. At some point in our lives, we all need help. Some people think that asking for help implies weakness, or a lack of strength. Asking for help when vulnerable, however, is wise. Instead of bearing pain and emotional distress alone, you can find strength in a psychotherapeutic relationship. Let me help you find your source of strength through psychotherapy. I work with patients wanting to examine and understand their emotional pain.

I started my career as a child psychiatrist and a researcher 20 years ago. I was interested not only in biological basis of mental disorders, but in psychotherapy and the concept of change. Upon immigration to the US, I studied among influential psychiatrists and therapists in New York and Boston. Currently I work in inpatient and outpatient settings, supervise medical students, and conduct psychiatric research. As I have been for the past 20 years, I am still fascinated with the amazing, complex process of individual development.

There is a lot that pulls you in a thousand directions as a mom. You're expected to run a seamless household, support your family, spend time with friends, and look good while doing it all. Advice from family and friends doesn't help much, and instead it leaves you more confused. Your older family members suggest parenting with a heavy hand how you were raised, but that doesn't feel good to you, or your kids. You wonder... how is it that other mothers seem to have it all together? You can allow motherhood to take over your well-being, or you can get support from a licensed therapist - who looks like you and totally gets it.

As someone who is neurodivergent, you struggle to connect with others. The constant feeling of being misunderstood often ignites frustration or anger, especially when advocating for your needs. Classmates, coworkers, romantic partners, and even friends have been shaming, rather than supportive. Because of this constant rejection, you have become accustomed to hiding what you are feeling, sensing, experiencing, and thinking. Over time, hiding becomes an instinctual way of trying to remain safe. This results in a pattern of self-doubt, anger, and exhaustion as you try to fit into a world that doesn’t understand your unique needs.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
