I know that it often takes a lot of courage to seek support and it can be challenging to open up and face some of the feelings we may be trying hard to keep a lid on. And yet at the same time, there is a part of us that wants things to be different and to get out of our 'familiar prisons', whether that be difficult relationships, experiences from our past, patterns of behaviour, or feelings we just can't make sense of. I am an experienced Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and my aim is to provide a safe environment where we can navigate the questions and feelings you have to empower you to move forward in your life in a healthy way.

I am a person centred counsellor and also have a qualification in cognitive behavioural therapy. I believe counselling is a journey of self-discovery and personal development that is a continual process both during and after therapy has taken place. Through counselling, a person will learn about themselves in a way they would never intend or maybe expect. As a counsellor I will be alongside you on your therapeutic journey and create a safe space that is respectful and non-biased to allow you to discover yourself and work through any issues that may be troubling you.

Humanistic Counsellors

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
