Providing person-centered and strengths-based counseling I use an integrative model that incorporates techniques from various modalities for a holistic approach.
Life offers so many opportunities and challenges. At times we can be overwhelmed by the struggles that have come our way. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness or failure, it’s a sign of strength. Whether you are struggling with relationships, emotions, current or past events, who you are, or how to be the best version of you, it can be so helpful to have someone walk with you on your journey of growth and healing. I look at all aspects of who you are within the context of your lived experiences and how this is related to your current concerns. With compassion, non-judgement, and cultural humility, you will feel seen and heard.

Millennial women may often find themselves navigating a myriad of challenges in their personal and professional lives. Often feeling overwhelmed by societal expectations, juggling multiple roles, and longing to find a sense of balance and fulfillment. There is a desire to reconnect with their authentic selves and reclaim their sense of purpose and aspirations.

With a culturally responsive and trauma-focused lens, I take an integrative approach to therapy by drawing on psychodynamic and humanistic frameworks that've been proven effective.
Starting therapy can feel like embarking on a journey into uncharted territory. It's confronting overwhelming challenges like the persistent weight of anxiety, the pervasive cloud of depression, the tension of stress, or the intricate interplay of life’s multifaceted issues that often drives us to seek therapeutic support. Making the decision to start therapy marks a pivotal moment in the pursuit of self-discovery and healing. Entering therapy is a testament to resilience. It's about bravely confronting internal struggles with the hope of finding relief, understanding, and ultimately, positive change.

The approach that I take to therapy is holistic, integrative, trauma-informed, strength-based and person-centered.
After completing my undergraduate degree, I decided to further my education and pursue a master's degree in counselling psychology. During my graduate studies, I became particularly interested in the effects of trauma on individuals and families. I focused his research and coursework on this area and sought out opportunities to gain hands-on experience working with trauma. I am committed to continuing my education and staying up-to-date on the latest research and techniques in counselling. I am doing work in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and DBT and incorporates aspects of MBCT

I implement an integrative EMDR therapy approach to help support and heal from symptoms of trauma, anxiety and depression.
Trauma, anxiety and depression are on the rise, and it's no wonder with everything that's happened in the last few years. If you are tired of doing everything yourself, having to be strong, to grit your teeth and just get through the day, speaking to a counsellor may help. I am a trauma-informed therapist, and I'm here to offer you room to breathe deeply, to unclench your shoulders and to find a little peace in your day to day life. You have made it through life so far, and now may be the right time to learn and explore new ways of caring for yourself, communicating with your loved ones, and building better supports for the future.

I approach therapy from an integrative perspective utilizing various modalities to customize optimal treatment plans collaboratively with clients.
It is ok not to be okay. Life is hard. In the words of B. Withers, “sometimes in our lives we all have pain, we all have sorrow; but if we are wise we know that there’s always tomorrow. Lean on me, when you’re not strong… I’ll help you carry on.” Let me support you on your journey towards wellness. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I have a master's degree in counselling psychology, and over sixteen years of experience working in mental health.

What is integrative therapy?

Integrative therapy is a type of therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual client. By merging elements of different treatments, an integrative therapist aims to offer a more flexible approach than those who practice just one type of therapy.

How does integrative therapy work?

Integrative therapy approaches a client’s mental, physical, and emotional health in a holistic way to discover the sources of their unhealthy behaviour patterns or other challenges and considers the approach most likely to lead to improvement. Among the techniques an integrative therapist may practice are cognitive-behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, art or music therapy, psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, family systems therapy, gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. An integrative therapist regularly evaluates the client’s progress and is prepared to pivot to a different approach if progress stalls.

How long does integrative therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for integrative therapy; people who find they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that spurred them to seek treatment. New patients should understand that it may take some time for a therapist to land on a treatment approach that best meets their needs, but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

How effective is integrative therapy?

There are hundreds of types of talk therapy, and research shows that while they vary in form, goals, and frequency, many if not all can produce similarly successful outcomes. But a single approach does not always deliver the greatest, or speediest, benefit, and so even therapists primarily trained in one model will use tools, language, techniques, or exercises from others to shape an effective treatment plan.
