I draw from a broad collection of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and more, to strategically support each client.
With over a decade in the social service field and as a Canadian Certified and Registered Clinical Counsellor, ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) and master of counselling (MC), I work with clients to manage life’s circumstances and find healthier ways of engaging with self and others. When you come into a session, I will offer compassion when you feel vulnerable and calmness when things feel chaotic. There is a reason you feel the way you do and you do not have to face it alone. You can count on a safe and accepting space to share your concerns and, in turn, I will offer support and guidance along your journey.

No waitlist (as of September 2024). I'm Kevin, a social worker & clinical counsellor, specializing in play therapy for kids (6-10 years old) and trauma-healing approaches for adults (e.g., EMDR), particularly within the LGBTQ2S+ community. We go beyond talk therapy, using interactive methods (e.g., LEGO) and a relationship-based approach. I bring my personal experience of growing up queer into my practice, creating a space where survivors of systemic issues of all ages—be it racism, homophobia, colonization, or ableism—can find understanding, support, and a path to self-acceptance.

My ideal clients are committed couples who love each other but feel disconnected and stuck in unhelpful patterns. They long to feel closer, deeply understood, and truly seen by their partner. They want to communicate openly without fear of conflict, rebuild trust, and reignite the passion that once brought them together. These couples are ready to truly commit to themselves and each other, willing to evolve, and open to giving and receiving more love and appreciation. Their biggest desire is to feel safe, loved, and emotionally connected, and they’re ready to do the work to heal and strengthen their relationship from the inside.

I will help you access your body based intuition so that you can find answers that are right for you. Your inner somatic wisdom holds the answer to what you need to feel good. While our minds are busy trying to figure things out, our body's somatic felt sense has a sense of what resonates. For over 20 years I have helped people heal from personal, intergenerational, and collective trauma, depression, and more using focusing therapy, art therapy, EMDR and more. Psychedelic somatic interactional psychotherapy uses cannabis or low dose ketamine to help your nervous system release stored trauma.

I'm Sasha - a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (MEd) from SFU. My training and work have been set in Greater Vancouver, not just out of the privilege of being born here, but also out of a sense of commitment; I see a great amount of need from my diverse community members and I am drawn to support you. I am a strong believer in viewing our challenges from a holistic lens, and the importance of attending to the mind-body connection. I retain compassion and curiosity for everyone I meet, and understand peoples’ struggles through significant life events and socio-cultural narratives.

If you're struggling or going through a tough time you may want some support. My team and I welcome the chance to work along side you. Finding the right fit with a therapist is really important for counselling to be helpful. It should be with someone who really understands what is happening for you, someone qualified to help, and someone who you feel comfortable talking to. Therapy involves effort. The good news is that you won’t be doing it alone. The alliance between us means that we'll be there to support you, ready to work with you while you create your path forward.

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds — perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
