My hope is to meet those who seek my accompaniment where they are at and to provide a space in which they feel secure, supported, and free to explore without fear of judgement. With you, I hope to unearth the ways in which you relate to and connect with the world around you: how your past and present ways of relating have provided you and your relational constellations with both service, and disservice. I aim to value and to cherish your cultural intersections - incorporating these into the work we engage together.

I work with individuals and couples who seek to improve their mental health and relationships. I work with individuals, who experienced trauma, struggling with anxiety, and/ or seeking meaning to life events. My unique life experience exposed me to different cultures and ways of living, which included the Middle East, Europe, and North America. I believe that relationships, mental health, and behaviors are better understood when body, mind, and context are examined simultaneously. I work with my clients to navigate through their experiences, including their spirituality, to create helpful meanings in their lives.

I provide a woman- centered approach to mental health, as a licensed psychologist and life coach, that is personalized to fit the needs and personality of each individual woman. Women's mental health may be affected by reproductive- related events (e.g., the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause). As such, the possible impact of biological factors need to be understood and incorporated in a holistic approach, that includes psychological, social, and cultural factors, for each woman to receive optimal treatment. Within this context I provide diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, and consultation for a wide variety of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment concerns.

We, as human beings, all face difficult times during our lives. These phases can leave us feeling out of control and isolated. The simple act of choosing change in your life can help you to feel empowered and on a path to a greater sense of well-being. As an integrative therapist (using cognitive behavioral, supportive, interpersonal and existential techniques), I will first help you to define your goals and then support you as you work towards achieving them. Using those techniques that best suit your particular needs and styles, we will effectively create a New Therapy tailored specifically for you.

Parenting is a rollercoaster, but adding a neurodevelopmental or medical condition to the mix makes it that much more challenging. I aim to treat emotional and behavioural issues, but also to help parents feel more confident about their parenting and feel more emotionally connected to their children despite the challenges.

After many years as an educator and a professional musician, I returned to university and completed an MA in Counselling Psychology. My experience in neurofeedback, which began in 2007, led me to want to pursue studies in counselling in order to offer a more complete therapeutic experience for my clients. I currently work in a dual diagnosis mental health and rehab centre, but my private clients consult primarily for anxiety, ADHD, sleep and trauma related motivational problems. The combination of counselling with neurofeedback, hypnosis, and EMDR-based bilateral stimulation therapies is very helpful.

Motivational Interviewing Counsellors

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathises, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviours in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behaviour.
