Life can be challenging, whether we are young or old, alone or in relationship with others. With over 30 years of experience working with children, youth, adults and families in a variety of settings, I have learned that we can face and overcome many of life's challenges by recognizing our strengths, understanding our fears, enhancing our relationships and learning new skills and knowledge to manage the struggles we are facing. Therapy can be a daunting first step and yet a part of what may be a transformative journey.
Many people struggle with anxiety, sadness and depression. We also bring into our current lives and relationships unresolved issues from our past (e.g.sexual/physical/emotional abuse; losses; traumatic events). These can negatively affect the quality of our life and relationships. Conversely, addressing them may bring about positive changes to both.
My approach is eclectic, client centred and responsive to the individual's needs and developmental stage. CBT, mindfulness based and trauma informed practices (e.g. TF-CBT, Progressive Counting) are research supported approaches that are foundational to my practice, and can be drawn upon when working through grief and loss, anxiety, depression and trauma.
