Some of the therapeutic models I utilize include Family Systems Theory, Polyvagal Theory, EMDR, ART, and Somatic Experiencing.
If you are struggling, know that you are not alone. Life can be hard. The idea that its supposed to be easy, or that if we struggle it means we are failing, or not enough, is wrong. These harmful beliefs along with our personal and difficult life experiences, can cause disconnection from ourselves and others. I believe this disconnection is the source of much of our suffering. I am here to support you on your unique healing journey as you rediscover the inherent resilience and capacity for healing and joy that has always been within you.

Contextual forces of family, community, historical events, and trauma shape the brain from conception through the lifespan. Less than optimal circumstances can lead to a compromised nervous system and the formation of maladaptive patterns in the brain and body. As a result, you may suffer from symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, poor emotional regulation, difficulty in relationships, addictions, dissociation; and even autoimmune disorders or physical symptoms that cannot be explained medically. If you want to heal stuck patterns, live authentically with more joy and less fear, and have better relationships, I can help!

I aim to empower parents as the "bigger, stronger, wiser, and kind" half of the parent-child relationship, and as such, I walk along side them as they make shifts in order to bring about the change within the family that they desire.
Parenting is a wondrous yet often difficult journey. Children's early development takes place within the context of their close relationships. My work focusses on helping to optimize the parent-child relationship as the foundation for a child to reach their potential and have the best possible start in life. I have focussed my career on working with children, including children with developmental differences and various medical challenges through settings such as Montreal Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and the Alberta Children's Hospital. I look forward to journeying with you on the adventure of parenting.

Hi everybody! I’m George, a Registered Provisional Psychologist. I've called Calgary home for the past 25 years and spent my childhood in Winnipeg and Prince George. Each summer, my parents would take us to Egypt to stay connected with our family heritage and the country they immigrated from. Although my Arabic isn’t perfect, these cross-cultural experiences deeply shaped my perspective, helping me to appreciate and value diverse ways of life. This journey has fostered a non-judgmental and compassionate approach to understanding and supporting people from all walks of life. My therapeutic approach integrates Acceptance

Do you struggle with anxiety, grief, the effects of trauma, or an inability to feel worthy? Are you finding it difficult to show up for yourself and others in the ways that you want to? Do you feel overwhelmed by a challenging relationship, difficult family dynamics, or the demands of daily life and wonder if things will ever get easier or more manageable? Right now, so many of us are experiencing increased worry, loss of direction, and uncertainty and feel paralyzed. But what if you have the capacity to create positive change and all you need is a little support to take the next right step toward the life you want to live?

My approach to counselling is specific to each client I work with. I believe the therapeutic process is highly creative and that it relies equally on both spontaneous diversion and meticulous planning. In addition to direct focus on the individual, I also believe deeply in the power of family dynamics, social structure, and the societal pressures that exist in our highly complex modern world.

and how we can find the "tough" within ourselves to "get going" and prevail! I would be thrilled to work with you, your family, and your systems.
I am constantly amazed at the resilience we all show, as we navigate our lives amidst the challenges that invariably arise! Sometimes the demands on us outweigh the resources we have available in that moment. It takes a courageous person to recognize the need for, and to request and accept, support. I am honoured every time clients invite me to join them along their journeys toward improved insight, skill, interaction, and overall living.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
