Through my therapeutic work I have realised that in order to heal and resolve our deep emotional wounds we must focus on the whole picture, our mind, body and our soul. If we want to create lasting transformation, we must switch off the autopilot, our habitual thoughts and behavioural patterns that have been working against us. We must be willing to take the first steps towards discovering who we truly are. Discovering our true authentic self and our worth, is the most empowering experience that we can achieve on our healing journey. In the words of E. Tolle, “You do not become good by trying to be good, but by finding the goodness

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience in the counselling field. I have specialised in marriage counselling, family therapy, anxiety and depression and teenage counselling. I have also had a lot of experience with issues arising within families in the Islamic community. I have chosen to focus on women’s mindfulness, specifically because Islam emphasises the value of a woman and the importance of them being treated with respect, not being taken advantage of due to the vulnerability. Islam also conveys the rights of women, supporting them in seeking counselling in a time of need..

I bring a combination of tools to our sessions including; narrative therapy, strengths based coaching, somatic awareness and transactional analysis to name just a few.
I help people sort through messy, complicated and stuck experiences. Our world is confusing and complicated (even at the best of times). We often find ourselves stuck, locked or held back by something we don’t fully understand, yet. I bring the best parts of therapy and coaching together. It’s here in this space, that we will make room for clarity, reflection, presence and activating the right kind of change.

Some of my techniques are CBT, solution focused and narrative therapies.
I am a compassionate 'Person Centered' Counsellor supporting you to re- learn how to develop an optimistic sense of self, helping you to understand the roots and cause of internal conflicts. Change is not something we do. It arises out of a deeper experience with ourselves. Whether it be negative mindset, anxiety, depression, fear, relationship issues, chronic illness. It takes time to change entrenched behaviours developed in your lifespan. The therapeutic process of counselling, enables change of unwanted behaviours - using practical ways, making better life choices, one step at a time in a private and safe space.

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds — perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
