Please get in touch to discuss how we can work together to best support your family.
Often children don’t have words to describe their experiences and feelings and instead reveal them through behaviours which can be misunderstood. They may get into trouble, be labelled, or disconnect. I work with children and families just like this. As a carer, reaching out for support can be the hardest step. I work closely with you and your child through Play Therapy which is relationship based therapy for children aged 3-12 years. Play is a child’s natural way of communicating and Play Therapy creates the environment where the therapist enters into a child’s world and understands the experience from their perspective.

I am a warm and friendly child and family therapist and have worked with children and adolescents overcome a range of emotional, psychological, behavioural difficulties.
All children want to feel understood, accepted and loved, but sometimes the opposite is experienced in day to day relationships with their parents, siblings, and at school. These feelings can be overwhelmingly frustrating, confusing and stressful for you and your child. You have tried so many ways to help your child and worry about your family's emotional and mental well-being. I can help you and your child gain insight, break through the negative experiences and restore hope. Through our work together, you will feel more supported and your child will improve their self esteem.

I work with parents, children, teens, and individuals who have problems with emotions (anxiety, anger, overwhelm), relationships (friendship and family conflict), and self-worth/self-esteem (low confidence, timid, shy). Additionally, I provide parenting support to develop a child's emotional resilience and connect parent/child. I use several tools including positive psychology and therapies based on self-compassion and mindfulness to develop new skills and heal emotional and relational wounds, which can help foster stronger connections, regulate emotions, create healthy boundaries, and increase self-worth and self-esteem.

Like a flower, we bloom in the right environment; in the play therapy room I work with empathy and acceptance to create a safe space for children and families in order for them to work through their issues and “grow”. I recognise the importance of family and offer assistance to parents and carers to work towards a safer, happier and more relaxed home environment in a strength-based way. Child-centred Play Therapy is a gentle, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming way of supporting children in their unique reactions to coping with daily life, big life events or trauma and attachment issues.

Providing a safe place to share, discuss and work through those times where daily life feels difficult, coping with the day to day tasks becomes overwhelming, school, family, relationship issues become too much; bullying, peer pressure, friendship groups, sexting, screen time/gaming issues take over; questions around identity, transitions/transitioning through school, university, work has a sense of hopelessness and helplessness; family life family relationships, managing young children, teenagers, adolescents, young adults, and parenting in general simply becomes too much.

I provide therapy for adults, adolescents, children, and families who are willing to take that first step towards change and a brighter future. I approach therapy collaboratively and help people find their own unique approach to overcome the challenges of life, and I ensure that this therapy is evidence-based. Instead of only focusing on the reasons that people come into therapy, I also focus on the strengths that can get someone back on their feet again.

I'm a firm believer that everyone could benefit from seeing a psychologist. We may not think twice about seeing GPs, physios, optometrists etc, all of which are important. But so is our psychological and emotional health. Whether you are facing a mental illness, going through a tough season of life, or wanting to learn how to optimise your relationships or well-being, we would love to hear your story. It is a privilege to be invited into your personal world so that you can be truly heard and seen. We can help you gain insight and make changes that perhaps have been too hard to face until now. All of this will be at your own pace.

Sexuality is multidimensional that engages all areas of life: mental, emotional, physical and social. Understanding the psychology and the culture through which sexuality is experienced is integral to finding well being and happiness. Shame, guilt, anxiety, as well as other psychological or medical conditions, can profoundly affect how we experience sexuality and deeply impact or attach itself to the complexities of our personal history and life experiences.

I strive to ensure my clients feel heard, understood and respected, regardless of their situation, past or concern. Taking a positive psychology and humanistic approach, I fundamentally believe that every person has a unique strength and I strive to maximise and build upon that strength. I focus on the person as a whole and want to help people be the best version of themselves. Moving away from a deficit focus, I use strengths-based approaches with my clients. I aim to continuously provide clients with respect, a collaborative approach to working on goals, with compassion and authenticity.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
