I encourage people to reach out early for support with family challenges, including childhood anxiety and challenging behaviours before they escalate.
I am a registered counsellor with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia). My experience is in early intervention, childhood behaviour support, anxiety and parenting. Through the hand in hand approach, I give practical tools to parents to support children in a way that promotes lifelong well-being and resilience. The tools help to build emotional connection, encourage us to delight in our children and support them with their feelings. The Hand in Hand approach is supported by well-established psychological and neuroscience research.

I completed the Master’s of Counselling and Psychotherapy at The Cairnmillar Institute, Melbourne, specialising in; trauma & grief, depression & anxiety, relationships, sexuality, chronic pain, work/school issues, communication, emotional regulation and processing, perfectionism & inner criticism and eating disorders.
I wholeheartedly believe in therapeutic healing through safety, compassion & acceptance in the present moment. If we are in distress, feeling lost, alone, sad, anxious or angry it can be hard to know whom to talk with or, what to talk about. Sometimes we don't want to talk at all to start with and, would prefer to do a creative/movement exercise to express ourselves. Maybe we know exactly what we want to talk about and explore, maybe learning new skills to integrate into daily life. I can be there to support you, whatever stage you are at.

I enjoy helping adolescent and adult clients discover there is an alternative to the life of distress and discomfort quite often being experienced in the lead up to engaging with mental health support. I work with people who are experiencing low mood and/or low motivation, difficulties adjusting, stress, anger, confusion or worry, to empower them to discover their strengths whilst developing insight into their presentation. I also offer ADHD assessment at a location in Frankston.

I love working with teens and adults who are facing challenges in their lives that they may feel are insurmountable. They may be struggling with grief, identity, big transitions or general feelings of demotivation, depression and anxiety. They may be having problems communicating or setting boundaries in relationships and need someone to walk alongside them in finding ways to build healthier coping strategies, begin to notice the beauty in life or get their spark back.

I truly believe that every woman already has an innate strength and resilience - my purpose is to help them access it and show them everything that is possible when they embrace their anxiety instead of fighting it or avoiding it.
Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed or struggling with people-pleasing, perfectionism, and lacking boundaries? Do you tend to overthink and plan out everything in your life, and to self-isolate and avoid certain situations? Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Now more than ever, people are anxious, self-sabotaging and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives. Pushing away your anxiety and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldnʼt be so hard to live a calm, confident life.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
