What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is currently regarded as the "Gold Standard" in psychological treatments. Research has verified the effectiveness of CBT in the treatment of a wide range of psychological disorders. CBT is a brief, solution-focused treatment modality based on the theory that thoughts, behaviors, and feelings are interrelated. Through treatment, individuals learn to recognize and modify maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their symptoms, resulting in a reduction in the intensity and frequency of these symptoms. Treatment involves between-session "homework" assignments to ensure that the skills learned in session are being practiced outside of session. In effect, individuals learn to become their own therapist and become more confident in their ability to manage symptoms on their own. Sessions typically last 55 minutes and can be delivered on a once or twice per week basis. Treatment can be delivered individually or in a group setting (when available). Most people experience significant improvement in 8-12 sessions. The actual duration of treatment depends on the type of problem and the severity and complexity of the case.
What Types of Problems Do We Treat?

We also offer CBT treatments for Anxiety, Depression and Behavior Problems in Children. We place a strong emphasis on Parent Management and family intervention when working with children and adolescents.
