Many people grow up in dysfunction and therefore they relate in inappropriate ways. Clients that I have helped the most typically relate to these dysfunctional ways: They guess at what normal is. They judge themselves without mercy. They have difficulty relaxing and enjoying life. They have difficulty with intimate relationships. They over-react to changes over which they have no control. They constantly seek approval and affirmation. They feel that they are different from other people. They avoid conflict or aggravate it; rarely do they deal with it. They fear failure, but sabotage their success.

I will support you in making sense of things, and applying tools to move forward in a way that feels authentic to you. My expertise lies in gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, neurodiversity and living with physical disabilities (chronic pain, autoimmune concerns, and mobility limitations). I am also attuned to the impact of socioeconomic factors on mental health and sexual, existential, political, and spiritual concerns. Lastly, I can help you address compulsions, dependencies, and substance use. What you won't find with me is judgment. I honor diversity in all its expressions and welcome all: queer, spicy, and quirky.

Do you have a lot of insight about your trauma that doesn't lead to change? Are you starting to feel frustrated with having the knowledge yet still wrestling with the same triggers and symptoms time and time again? I hope you know that is so normal, especially with trauma. But it doesn't have to be this way. I can help you create more peace in your life and restore your previous functioning. Imagine if you experienced deep relief and didn't have to work so hard anymore - how would your life change? Imagine feeling secure in your relationships, calm in the face of previous triggers, and doing what you want with your life.

I specialize in working with new mothers navigating the perinatal phase of mental health, which can often throw a curveball we weren’t expecting. If you have found your way to me, I am honored to support you as you navigate your way through the challenges you’re currently facing.

I believe each individual has both the capacity and the right to change and to grow. It is my duty to be aware of the whole person and never to reduce him or her to a mental health challenge or diagnosis. Whole people have their own set of circumstances physically, emotionally, educationally and spiritually as well as other facets. I subscribe to a meta-approach. I employ multiple types of treatment modalities. I take these and with the person being served, weave a set of treatments that will best address whatever needs are being presented as obstacles to thriving.

Your Spirit is calling you to remember your true nature; to dive below the judgments of your mind, the conditioning of your past, and fears of not being enough or worthy of a rich and satisfying life. Many people struggle in life trying to find a place in the world to fit, feeling inadequate and judging their pain. All along, the perfection of who you are is waiting to be discovered. For this you must journey within. With careful attention, each moment is an opening to what is most essential, true and relevant: now. Tap into your creativity and learn to play for real. I do not assess, diagnose, or offer remediation for dysfunction.

Despite what Instagram, TikTok, or an opinionated in-law may have us believe, none of us are born knowing how to parent, and many of us are actively working on changing intergenerational patterns in our own families in order to better support the growth and development of our children, in essence, reparenting ourselves. This process is a difficult one, and not meant to be done in isolation. Together we can look at how you were parented, how you want to parent, and how to bridge any gaps in between.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
