I am a person who has struggled with mental health including anxiety , depression , and anger for several years. I have a first hand understanding of challenges, such as how it feels to desire isolation because of depression ,how to avoid life because of anxiety , and how to lose relationships because of uncontrollable anger . I also know how it feels to not live as the authentic self . Has life gotten in the way of you achieving your goals and live and live as your true self ? Are you looking for better coping skills? Do you struggle in your relationship or marriage ? Is your household out of control ? I want to help you!!!

At Kindred Therapy, PLLC I specialize in working with couples & families who are in distress. Being a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) means that I incorporate many facets of your life into therapy. Often people think that MFTs only work with couples and families, while we do often work a lot with these clients, we also work with individuals and bring our systemic approach to therapy with them as well. Personally, it just makes sense to me to take into account all of the different systems you are connected to as I work to help you be where you want to be. I will work collaboratively with you and bring more than a decade of experience as a therapist into our sessions.

Whether it’s trying to figure out the kinks in your marriage, reducing conflict in your family or navigating the stress of your everyday life, I can help you get there!.
“There must be more to life than this!” If you’ve said these words then welcome to the club. We’ve all been there. Whatever it is you are going through, you are not alone. Most of us haven’t been given the tools we need to deal with all the things that life throws at us and we end up holding on to ALL of it. But it’s too heavy to carry on our own, so we get angry and often just stay there. You’ve decided to do the smart thing and get some help with the heavy lifting. You are taking the first step!

Body Image Group members rave about learning how to respond when people say things about size or shape around them. They have learned to change how they think about themselves, and they have reported feeling empowered by the sense of community found in working with others on healing our relationships with our bodies. My other specialties include Adult Children of Alcoholics, relationship challenges, anxiety and depression. I supervise Marriage and Family Therapists who are working on full-licensure, so I have been doing this fascinating work long enough to guide others to doing their best work, too!

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
