I work with adults using an eclectic approach, combining somatic parts work, expressive therapies, values-based, and neurodiversity-affirming approaches.
As a queer, Chinese, eldest daughter of immigrants, I believe that it is important to hold space for all parts of you, no matter how much hate those parts have internalized, no matter how much love those parts have been denied. I believe that your personal and ancestral pasts inform your present, and that you also have the power to functionally rewrite and close the chapters that are rooted in powerlessness, guilt, fear, and shame. Together, we can collaboratively and creatively tap into your strengths, values, inner wisdom, and identities in service of freeing up the space and energy to curate the meaningful life you deserve.

You are a strong, accomplished woman, but the weight of your past still lingers. As a professional woman of color, you've navigated the challenges of life with resilience, yet the scars of childhood trauma sometimes feel like they hold you back from living fully. You might find yourself struggling with anxiety, depression, or a sense of disconnection from who you truly are. Know this: you are not alone, and there is a path to healing. My practice is dedicated to helping women like you—women who have survived developmental and sexual trauma, and who are ready to reclaim their lives from the grip of PTSD.

I know that each person I work with is unique, so I draw upon a range of modalities including attachment-based therapies and somatic practices.
I believe one of the most healing things we can do is understand our stories and how it affects our everyday life and relationships. These experiences can manifest in different ways such as anxiety, emotional numbness, or relationship challenges. The clients I work with have oftentimes experienced complex relational traumas in childhood and dysfunctional family dynamics. Through these difficult experiences, we develop coping strategies and protective behaviors, which may no longer be serving you.

I tend to work from a variety of perspectives based in attachment theory, Polyvagal Theory, the Structural Dissociation model, parts work/IFS, somatic modalities, mindfulness and self compassion.
It can be a powerful time for trauma work when starting a family of your own. Often my clients are young adults and new parents who are highly self critical to avoid being with messiness and what cannot be controlled. They use alcohol, substances, food, exercise, work/ busyness or caretaking to manage or stay away from feelings. Often they expect the worst and prepare to self protect and can be overly focused on the people around them. My clients share about anxiety or depression since childhood or have complicated family of origin dynamics.

My clinical practice centers around therapeutic modalities that view peoples' minds, bodies, hearts, and souls as one. I believe that valuing this interconnectedness is one of the most important factors in restoration, growth, and finding your inner-light. One way to find and re-connect with ourselves is through the practice of Ecotherapy, a therapeutic approach that encourages people to undertake a healing journey through our relationship with nature. This can look like (but is not limited to) incorporating the outdoors into session, utilizing somatic interventions, and engaging creative expression that uses natural materials.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
