**I do not currently have openings for new clients. ** Life is challenging, and at times life events and situations can feel overwhelming and confusing. In therapy I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore what is on their minds. Using a variety of approaches tailored to each individual, I strive to help clients (re)connect to their own inner resources and to develop new skills to help make challenges feel less overwhelming.

I love hearing other people’s stories and having the privilege to be a part of their journey. I believe we all face challenges and obstacles at some point in our lives and that working through these challenges helps us grow. I enjoy working with people to help them identify and clarify personal values, practice self-care, and work towards creating a healthy (and hopefully happy) lifestyle balance.

A non-judgmental environment where you can explore your real feelings can make a world of difference and help you find solutions that are right for you. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, irritable, or overwhelmed; are unhappy and don't know why; if you keep having the same pattern of problems at work or in your relationships; or if you simply want more out of life, therapy can help you achieve change in unexpected ways. Change can come through understanding how childhood shaped your experience of self and others. We collaborate to help you grow at your own pace.

I am not accepting new clients at this time. My therapeutic style is centered around compassion and collaboration. I truly believe each individual has inner strength and resilience, but sometimes it can be difficult to access these on our own.  Together, you and I will explore issues, learn skills and challenge thoughts that hinder you from being your confident and whole self. I believe in a creative approach while offering constructive, real life solutions you can use outside of the office.

Relationships and life transitions often involve loss, grief, and sadness. Emotional pain, moreover, often makes everyday life seem unbearable and exhausting. Outpatient counseling and psychotherapy - both marital and individual - can facilitate the relief of the sadness, confusion, and anxiety that are part of working through personal and relational stressors. The approaches and models in which I have been trained and educated - interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, and psychodynamic therapies - are also informed by and infused with with the essential, humane and core qualities of empathy, understanding, warmth, and genuineness.

Why do I need therapy? Therapy is for people who are crazy or out of control! I should be able to do this by myself! Asking or getting help means I'm not capable or strong. People are in therapy "cause they have to be." Couple's therapy is a last resort. Family therapy doesn't work/is not for me. Are any of these questions going through your mind? Is it helpful to know you are not alone? Sometimes, people are apprehensive about engaging in therapy or leery about continuing with therapy. All of the above reactions are understandable considering people's experiences. Licensure supervision/professional consultations offered.

As a primary clinician at Ocean State Recovery, I have a strong passion for working with individuals struggling with substance use disorder and mental health issues. These are not issues to be embarrassed or ashamed of and are quite common. With the right support and treatment plan, I assist patients to overcome these issues and live a fuller life without addiction. When one is willing and committed to recovery, all things are possible.

My name is Alicia V. Rodriguez, and I'm a psychotherapist. I created Clear Space MH after numerous conversations and hearing multiple individuals express how they wish they could find a therapist who "understood" what they were going through; a therapist who understood their cultural background, and what it’s like to work full time while taking care of family members. A therapist who understood adversity, but not being able to “fix it”. I realized that I too wanted the same. Clear Space MH is just that; a clear space to work on your mental health. Everyone’s mental health journey is different and will be treated as such.
