Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities were confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Feel Better Therapy began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

IT IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO AVOID THE STORMS OF LIFE, BUT YOU CAN LEARN TO DANCE IN THE RAIN. Do your problems seem overwhelming? Is conflict in your relationship making you unhappy? Do painful childhood memories keep surfacing? Anger can ruin your relationship and get you in trouble with the law. Anxiety and depression can prevent you from enjoying life to the fullest. Holidays can bring back unhappy memories or be a source of stress and conflict. Loneliness and isolation feel worse during these times. Self medication with alcohol, drugs or other addictions that are used to dull the pain only make it worse.

While everyone’s journey through life is unique, we ultimately all want the same thing…We ALL want to be happy. Unfortunately, happiness doesn't always come easily. Our journey is full of challenges that we have to overcome in order to get back to being happy. We experience sadness and loss. We fall completely in love only to suffer heart break. Some of us go through traumatic events such as combat or a devastating accident. These situations and many more cause us to develop feelings of fear, sadness and frustration which we do our best to manage, but typically do so in an unhealthy and maladapted way.

As your therapist, I create a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere to bring comfort in expressing your thoughts and feelings. Gaining a deeper understanding of oneself in a positive environment promotes growth, change and emotional well being. My aim is to hold space for all the parts of your inner world, and to collaboratively reflect on the thoughts, behaviors and beliefs that no longer serve you. As a trauma informed clinician, our sessions will explore how past experiences have shaped the way you view life, including the habits and behaviors that you feel are holding you back. Together we can explore ways to heal.

The following questions are common: Why can’t I sleep? Why don’t I feel like myself? Why do I feel numb, depressed, anxious, stressed, and panicky? I cannot deal with my family, friends, or school and work! How do I deal with discrimination, oppression, microaggressions, marginalization, racism at work or school, etc.? The feelings and symptoms you are experiencing may be about your body and mind trying to adjust to difficult and stressful life experiences. These circumstances heavily impact your ability to stay positive and focus on work or school due to feeling. Especially with everything that’s going on in our world right now

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
