I have over 33 years experience treating depression and anxiety. I believe that depression/anxiety often has root causes from childhood abuse of a verbal, sexual or physical nature or perhaps regrets resulting from your own choices. I have successfully treated all kinds of PTSD, post abortion syndrome, sexual identity issues, anger, and grief through loss. I help married women to learn to live with difficult husbands when divorce is not their option. I help couples to resolve conflict and learn to live in love and respect.

I have guided people through their symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, PMDD, PCOS, depression, medical health challenges, and many more diagnoses.
If you want a blunt and no sugar coating therapist look no further! Of course, I am honest with the intent of being kind and caring. The goal is to make the client a priority and implement self-care. Therapy is an investment and considered prevention for your own self-care needs. I have over 12 years experience, and worked in medical settings before that. I have experience in the medical health environment with a range of health issues from sufferers of heart attacks, stroke, women's & men's issues, and chronic illnesses. I implement an eclectic approach featuring CBT.

I work with adolescents, adults, individual, couples and families experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relational and or spiritual concerns, as well as those seeking personal growth.
No matter what you are facing, the experience of being seen, heard, and understood are just as important as the skills you learn to navigate times of anxiety, depression, feeling lost, confused, needing to recover from trauma, or just plain overwhelmed. In working through these painful places, people experience me as being present with them in it; as caring, and compassionate, while jointly working to identify and address the individual or relational issues contributing to their current difficulty. It is a privilege to journey with you as you reclaim your authentic self, your power, and reestablished personal and relational health.

I work with adults and adolescents of all backgrounds and specialize in supporting those grappling with anxiety, depression, and interpersonal conflicts.
Life often presents us with challenges that can easily become overwhelming or even daunting. In a world filled with relentless to-do lists and constant demands, finding time for ourselves often takes a back seat. Our society doesn’t always encourage the practice of self-care, leaving many of us feeling stretched thin. Investing time and energy in yourself is a powerful choice you can make to begin shifting this dynamic. You deserve the life you want and have the power to make meaningful changes toward that life.

Therapy is an experience where human beings learn to live differently. Differently is the key word. Different can look like less depression, more spontaneity, or deeper and more mutual relationships. Different can be learning to say "yes," "no," or "maybe." Different can be improved physical health, less anxiety, or sustained sobriety. When one begins treatment there's usually a percolating idea of what needs to be different. Helping you clarify the ways you'd like to live differently, what has gotten in your way up to this point, and how those changes can be made is psychotherapy.

Areas of experience include: couples and families in crisis; facing transition; clergy & military dynamics; bereavement; depression; abuse survivors; trauma; relationship and communication difficulties.
I have enjoyed working as a partner in mental health and wellness for over 20 years. It is my hope that as I walk alongside the client he or she will recognize strengths, develop skills, and embrace healing. While I have specialized training in some complex issues, much of the work of a counselor is helping people deal with the everyday struggles most of us face on a daily basis.

Do you ever feel like you've lost yourself in your relationship? That you don't even know your partner anymore? Or that you're lonely, but you shouldn't be because your life looks 'right' on the outside? You are in the right place. I work best with people who want help in re-finding themselves, loving themselves, and want to work through any experiences that have caused or continue to cause stress, harm, anxiety, or depression for themselves or within their relationship. I love working with clients that want to become better communicators through building, growing, and repairing relationships (with oneself or with your partner).

At times, we all find ourselves pushed to the limits of what we can cope with. We work hard to escape familiar, painful cycles, only to end up where we began. Some of us are attempting to salvage marriages with spouses we dearly love, yet with whom we continue to engage in the same old arguments, losing hope that we can ever recover the connection we once had. Others may be battling crippling anxiety or trying to shake the cloud of depression that darkens our every step. We are left exhausted, discouraged, and hopeless.

These cover wide-ranging issues: work-related, life transitions, depression/anxiety, family/relationships, teen/adolescent, grief, trauma, addiction, bipolar, and schizophrenia.
Using gentleness mixed with honesty, I will call you forward to better. Not to shame, but to healing. Freedom, passion, vibrance, thriving and not simply surviving. It's possible. There's hope. I believe we hold power over our own healing. I merely come alongside those who have decided to make that brave journey. From the very beginning, the most consistent feedback is of feeling safe and truly understood. I believe in "working myself out of a job", achieved by doing good work and encouraging clients to test and stretch their growth. They do this out on their own, knowing they can return for new layers of work.

I have worked extensively with children, teens, adults, and families dealing with issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, self-harm, suicidal ideation, trauma, parenting issues, relationship problems, and more.
I often say, counseling can be a bit like cleaning out a closet. You have to take things out, go through and organize them, and then put them back where they need to go. In a similar fashion, counseling can be messy, but with time and hard work, can lead to healthier, more enjoyable living. Throughout this life, we all have our individual struggles and hardships, but we weren't meant to carry them alone. No matter who you are or what you've been through, there is hope. In our sessions together, I strive to come alongside you in the pursuit of that hope and restorative healing.

I specialize in providing therapy to young people navigating daily stressors like homework and relationships to depression, anxiety, LGBTQIA+ concerns and more.
Let's be honest... adolescence and young adulthood can be tough! This period in life is often characterized by identity confusion, low self-esteem, difficulty regulating emotions, behavioral concerns, and many more challenges that the average young person isn't equipped to handle on their own. I definitely didn't know what to do when I experienced these hurdles as an adolescent and young adult. To this day, I still have to ask for help every once in a while! If you are beginning the process of finding help for yourself or your child, I want to applaud you for taking the first step in a challenging yet worthwhile journey!

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
