I specialize in the use of cognitive behavioral interventions and will use alternative interventions when appropriate. Hello! If you are reading this and looking for help you are right where you need to be :) I like to think of myself as an "UNshrink" . I believe in helping to de-pathologize you and whatever it is that you are struggling w, and helping you to experience your self, situation, and LIFE in a whole new way. I'm usually a good fit for ppl that aren't into traditional "therapy" for whatever reason: anxiety, skepticism, bad or unsuccessful past experiences, if you think you, your family, everything is/are beyond hope, or if you are interested in something completely "outside the box", bc that is me.

We all experience challenges during our everyday lives. Sometimes these challenges can seem overwhelming and discouraging. I work with people who want to make changes in their lives to help themselves overcome these difficult experiences. These changes can often be difficult to contemplate, yet alone act on. I strive to create a supportive environment for my clients where they can explore their concerns and the emotions that arise.

I am non-binary, polyamorous, and pansexual and love providing support to people in the LGBTQ+ community. I love working with children and teenagers, but have no specific age restrictions on my practice. I'm seeking clients who need to explore their emotions, experiences, and behaviors in an expressive way. Talking only gets us so far, whereas in my experience, use of the Expressive Arts (dance, drama, music, art, and writing) has an ability to get at the deeper stuff.

Did you ever watch Boy Meets World growing up? If yes, skip the next two sentences. If no, then let me set the scene. A 90’s sitcom about the wholesome, suburban Philadelphia Matthews family, who have two teenage sons. The older brother, Eric, bonks his younger brother, Cory, in the forehead and says “Life’s tough, get a helmet.” While I don’t condone violence, I do agree that life can be tough sometimes. While wearing a helmet is beneficial in a lot of scenarios (i.e. riding a bike), it is not so beneficial in the emotional, social, psychological, or theoretical realms.

In my work with individuals and couples, I engage in each therapeutic relationship with a warm, reflective, and grounding presence. I believe firmly in the worthiness of all to a sense of belonging, dignity, and agency and have witnessed time and again how therapy can be a powerful tool in accessing these needs. Being heard and understood within a supportive therapy environment allows us to both uncover our innate strengths and cultivate the skills and insight necessary to reduce suffering. Regardless of how ingrained and automatic our patterns might be and how stuck we might feel, a more peaceful life is possible for each of us.

I will be on vacation until 2/19/23. I bring warmth, compassion and years of experience, in my work as I help people heal, acquire skills and live with more ease in their lives. I have extensive training in couples counseling and parenting work. I have over 26 years of experience helping people with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance misuse, sexual issues, chronic illness, work issues, friendships, etc. I believe in continuing to grow and learn so that I may be of the most benefit to my clients. I work in an inter-actional, relational framework with people from 17 to 100 as individuals, couples, and families.

There is wisdom in the ways we adapt to our environments, but they do not always serve us in the present moment. My aim is to help people identify their adaptive patterns and view them with compassion, while also learning what to hold and what to let go. My work involves allowing you to find your compass by resolving traumas from the past and finding simple and workable solutions for the present. Over the past 15 years, I've practiced in school settings, community mental health, managed care, VA hospitals, university counseling centers, and private practice. My clinical interests are in fear, stress, depression, and suicide; creativity and the expressive arts; issues of intimacy and vulnerability in relationships; and issues of culture, identity, and liberation - especially regarding race, gender, sexuality, and spirituality. My specialized training (20 years) is in Buddhist psychology, trauma-informed creative art therapy, and exposure therapy for anxiety and trauma.

I work with people (18+) with concerns related to anxiety/stress, depression/low self-esteem, and health. I work with people when worry and stress interfere with their ability to work, have meaningful relationships, or carry out daily routines. I see clients with depressed mood and low self-esteem who have difficulty prioritizing their own wants and needs and consequently feel powerless, unfulfilled and dissatisfied with life. I also work with clients with health related concerns, emotional eating and poor body image.
