Are you struggling with work or relationships, lost connection, feeling alone or ashamed? Have you lost respect, trust or intimacy, or never felt you had it? Has emotional overwhelm affected your ability to open-heartedly relate to family, loved ones, even yourself? I can help you to experience deep compassion for those troubled parts of yourself, to allow you to succeed in love and work. First, we work to establish a safe, cooperative relationship, then we get to the work of change. We are all on this same road, trying to survive or live better. Come, walk it with me!

Shopping around for a qualified psychotherapist takes time. Even in the best of times it can be challenging to find someone you feel comfortable with. After years in the field, I am sensitive to the effort it takes to reach out for help when life is difficult; it can be even harder when you are an essential worker or are managing multiple roles during this pandemic. Working exclusively with adults (18+), my client-centered, insight-oriented focus can support you during the current crisis, to develop post-traumatic growth, and enable you to live fully.

Hello; thanks for viewing my profile. Everyone has an interesting story to tell of how they got to where they are now. Therapy can help change the plot and perhaps develop new chapters. I have been a psychologist for over 25 years- initially in a medical setting and then in private practice. I have expertise working with people with medical conditions as well as with depression and anxiety. I treat couples and individuals ranging from 18 years through the lifespan.

It is not easy to start therapy treatment. An ideal client is a person that, even through all the fears, doubts and questions, takes the first step to start treatment and gives a chance to explore a new technique to find better balance in their life. There could be setbacks in the process but the most important thing is to stay constant. The client is willing to work in their goals and implement skills learned in every session. Also, to ask questions needed, even if they feel afraid, in order to be able to communicate with their therapist in a honest way.

My ideal client may have a difficult time identifying their emotions and feeling like they are not “allowed” to feel emotions. My ideal client may tend to intellectualize or overthink their experiences. This person may work hard to maintain a high standard that is often unrealistic. My ideal client may have a history of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and chronic illness. The client’s goal is to learn to understand how they feel and give themselves permission to feel the way they do. This client recognizes that they are feeling overwhelmed, resentful, anxious, frustrated, sad, angry and they are looking for a change.

The ideal client would finally be open to change and hope to have better interpersonal relationships. This can be a client who struggles with their anxiety, possibly has poor attachment styles, and struggles with holding meaningful relationships (romantic, platonic, familial). Their goals would be identifying healthy boundaries and healthy responses, increasing effective communication skills, and identifying past relationships/present relationships in order to identify patterns/habits.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and it's interfering with your ability to have good days, in your relationships, sleep, work, or even school? Maybe these overwhelming feelings are coming out of the blue or from a variety of recent/past experiences, leaving you with little room to experience joy, or feel like your authentic self. If you are a person of color, are bicultural, or bilingual these overwhelming feelings can be compounded. You are not alone. Many individuals can feel this way and these overwhelming feelings can be deeply rooted. Yet, they can be healed and managed.

There are times in our life where we reach a point when we realize something may not be manageable anymore or has gotten bigger than we expected but you are here and you are taking the steps to implement change. Coming into a therapy session provides a safe space to explore this and challenge yourself to identify what is going on and how we can work together to accomplish that. We serve clients 16 years old and up.

I have openings for therapy for therapists themselves. If you are a caretaker, (yes we are caretakers-often invisible ones!) I can sit with you and explore your own stressors and how to practice having more of a balance of self and other care in your life. Having supervision and therapy for over a decade has changed my approach to understanding the importance of it for us. I also recently completed three year dharma teacher training to deepen my ability to help the helper. Dharma means a lot of things but ultimately means the "teachings" of the Buddha. The Buddha taught of the universality of suffering + a path for it.

I work with clients (individuals, couples and families) who experience relationship, self-esteem, or work related issues due to substance use such as alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs. Clients are ready to understand the underlying causes of substance use, identify triggers, coping skills and relapse prevention plans. Recovery is an ongoing process, and my role is to help others understand themselves and actualize their potential. I want clients to understanding that support is available to assist in their time of need and beyond.

Sometimes it can feel like we have too many thoughts in our head. "Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life." " Negative Thoughts can never give you a positive life..." It's very difficult at this time to be in a positive space and I know that we can all feel like this right now. I work to help you be "your healthy" and reach "your goals" in your journey in life. I focus on helping you reach your personal growth and healing. I want to help you achieve what changes and life solutions you want to make while providing a safe, caring and soothing therapeutic environment.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
