I see counseling as a process in which the client and the counselor work together in achieving a safe environment of understanding, mutual respect, and trust. We work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life, and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. I work with clients in a variety of formats including individual, couples, family, and group therapy. My name is John Gianforte. I am a licensed professional counselor, and licensed marriage and family therapist in Louisiana. My graduate degree is in clinical psychology. I am in full-time private practice in Shreveport Louisiana. My career path has been diverse, and includes serving as the administrator and clinical director of a state and federally funded non-profit mental health clinic, legislative and legal advocacy for mental health services, and developing expertise in forensic mental health, hypnotherapy, and evidence based counseling interventions.

I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help improve your ability to cope with distress and uncomfortable emotions. I was trained in DBT by The Linehan Institute.
